Barcelona vs Celta Vigo Preview

Barcelona host Celta Vigo at the Camp Nou this midweek. Although neither side has much left to play for, matches between these two are always a fantastic watch and the fact that neither will need to be conservative here should only keep the trend going.
Barcelona come into this match after a 2-1 win at the Benito Villamarin against Betis which sealed the Blaugrana’s place in next season’s Champions League. Former Barcelona defender Marc Barta equalised after Ansu Fati put Xavi’s side in front from off the bench, but with only seconds remaining Dani Alves lifted the ball into the box for Jordi Alba to volley home one of the goals of the season.
The Catalans have improved massively since Xavi came in, going from early December until mid-April without losing a game in LaLiga. Admittedly, they have lost three of their last four games at home in all competitions and were far from convincing in their last outing, defeating Mallorca by two goals to one.
Celta come into this match after thumping Alaves 4-0 last weekend. Thiago Galhardo put Celta in front before a goal from Franco Cervi and a brace from the ever-brilliant Iago Aspas sealed the three points and numerically sealed their top flight status for next season.
“Chacho” Coudet’s team will be happy to avoid the drop with three games left to spare, however this feels like yet another campaign in which Celta were simply content with avoiding relegation whilst many believe they possess a squad worthy of challenging for Europe.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 2 Barcelona wins, 2 Celta Wins, 2 Draws.
- The reverse fixture earlier this season ended 3-3 after Barca were 3-0 up at half time. This was the last match Barca played before Xavi took over.
- Three of the last eight meetings between the two have been draws with four goals or more.
- Celta won here 2-1 on Matchday 37 of last season, a game which saw Lionel Messi score his last goal for Barcelona.

Barcelona vs Celta Vigo Predictions
Score Prediction: Barcelona 2-2 Celta Vigo
Matches between these two are always great to watch and with nothing on the line for either side, a goal fest is even more likely. Expect Barca to start the game on the front foot whilst Celta should gradually get more possession and grow themselves into the game.
