Saturday’s action in LaLiga concludes with a really tasty game at the Benito Villamarin as Copa del Rey winners Real Betis play host to 2nd placed Barcelona. Three points would seal Champions League qualification for the visitors while Betis would go level on points with 4th placed Atleti were they to win the game.

With Diego Simeone’s facing some tough games and not looking convincing, Betis must feel like they do have a genuine chance of turning a great season into a truly exceptional one by piping Atleti to 4th. However they will need to rediscover their shooting boots having failed to score in any of their last 3 league games, the most recent of which was a goalless draw at Getafe on Monday night.

Betis should have all of their big hitters available here and it should be a celebratory atmosphere at the Benito Villamarin in their first home game since winning the Copa. Betis are of course looking to complete a league double over Barcelona having won at Camp Nou earlier this term but they are yet to pick up a home point against current top four opposition this term. Indeed six home league defeats seems a few too many for a side of their quality and that’s something Manuel Pellegrini will seek to improve on in 2022/23.

As for Barcelona, they will just want to clinch Champions League qualification as quickly as possible. They put their recent wobbles behind them to some extent with an important 2-1 home win against Mallorca last time out. That takes some of the pressure off this game but Xavi will still want a strong performance from his side with standards having slipped a bit of late.

The absence of Pedri has unquestionably been a factor in that. The 19 year old’s creative qualities are missed when he doesn’t feature and the balance hasn’t quite seemed right of late. Memphis Depay returned to the XI last week and scored but the Dutchman is one of a number of Barcelona players whose futures seems uncertain. It promises to be an interesting summer at Camp Nou as the rebuild continues and they will really be able to start focusing on that task should the Catalans seal a top four finish by winning this game.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 5 Barcelona Wins, 1 Real Betis Win.
  • Betis were surprise 1-0 winners at Camp Nou earlier this term.
  • However they’ve lost 7 of the last 8 meetings at the Benito Villamarin, with the only exception a 1-1 draw in 2017.
  • Barcelona have won 3-2 on their last 2 trips to this ground.

Real Betis vs Barcelona Predictions

Score Prediction: Betis 1-1 Barcelona

Betis will feel as though they have every chance in this game with Barcelona missing some key players but the Seville club haven’t been at their best in recent league fixtures. The home crowd should play a big part here but Barça look capable of taking what would be a useful point in the circumstances.
