Mallorca vs Granada Preview
Mallorca and Granada face off in a simply massive game this weekend at the bottom of LaLiga. It’s 16th vs 18th with just one point separating the sides ahead of kick-off. Victory for either would be a huge boost to their chances of staying in the Primera and it’s sure to be a tense affair in Palma.
A home win really would give Mallorca a good platform to go on and clinch survival as it would see them move 4 points clear of the bottom 3. They’ve no reason not to fancy their chances of doing just that either with their games since Javier Aguirre took over producing 2 home wins but 3 away defeats. Victories over Atletico Madrid and Alaves in front of their own fans have been simply priceless and they gave a reasonable account of themselves even in defeat last time out, going down 2-1 at Camp Nou against Barcelona.
Rayo Vallecano are the other remaining visitors to Son Moix and given their inability to pick up a single point on their travels in 2022, it really does feel like the two home games are going to determine Mallorca’s fate. They can welcome back striker Vedat Muriqi from suspension and that’s a major boost. The 6 foot 4 inch Kosovo international has been vitally important since joining the club in January, chipping in with 4 important goals and he also fits in pretty well with Aguirre’s style of play.
Granada will need to do their best to limit his influence on this game. A bit like their opponents, they opted for a managerial switch late in the campaign in an attempt to tighten things up defensively with a more conservative coach. Aitor Karanka has had an immediate impact on that front with just 1 goal conceded in their 2 matches under him so far. Both ended in draws – 0-0 at Atletico Madrid and 1-1 at home to Celta Vigo.
The latter would have been a fixture they’d have targeted given the Galicians have little left to play for and there’d have been a slight disappointment that they only got a point, although they were grateful for that in the end with Darwin Machis’ 92nd minute leveller cancelling out Iago Aspas’ goal. It is just 1 win in 16 league games though for Granada now and that can only be a concern as we head into the final 4 games with them in the relegation places.

Mallorca vs Granada Predictions
Score Prediction: Mallorca 0-0 Granada
This will be tight and tense, and caution may just prevail in the end. There’s probably more onus on Mallorca to go and try to win the game given they are at home but Aguirre will also be aware that they simply can’t afford to lose it. Aitor Karanka has made Granada a bit tougher to break down already and they may just get a third straight draw under his guidance here.
