LaLiga matchday 34

It was the weekend when the title was clinched in Spain as Real Madrid eased past Espanyol despite fielding a weakened eleven. Read on for our LaLiga matchday 34 review featuring all the results, xG data, stats and team of the week.

Real Madrid’s title-clinching 4-0 victory over Espanyol did flatter them in truth. They were the biggest xG over-achievers this weekend, while the visitors, who had 20 attempts on goal to Madrid’s 11, were the side who under-performed their xG by the greatest margin. However nothing can take away from the fact that Los Blancos have been comfortably the best team in LaLiga this season and their 15 point advantage at the top is testament to that.

Another interesting game from a statistical perspective was the Valencia derby. Levante have never won at Mestalla in LaLiga and that’s still the case after a 1-1 draw despite Alessio Lisci’s side enjoying 68% of the possession and having a matchday high 24 shots to Valencia’s 6. They were aided by Jose Gaya’s 1st Half red card but couldn’t force that elusive away derby win and remain 6 points from safety with only 4 games to play.

Jordi Alba’s tally of 113 completed passes immediately jumps out here. That was a huge 30 more than any other player in LaLiga managed this weekend and it’s very rare that you see a full-back complete anything like that many. Dani Alves was the player to complete the second most passes in the Barcelona-Mallorca game suggesting it was a very deliberate strategy from Xavi to build attacks from wide.

Elsewhere Levante players feature prominently with Dani Gomez, Jose Luis Morales, Oscar Duarte and Marcelo Saracchi all setting matchday highs. There is certainly some genuine top flight quality within their ranks and we could see a few of Levante’s current players in LaLiga again next season even if their team is relegated which is looking very likely at this stage.

Sorare LaLiga Fantasy Team of the Week

LaLiga MD34 review

The best XI on matchday 34 features two left-backs with Marcelo getting a rare start in what is set to be his final campaign as a Real Madrid player and he put in a really good performance too. Jules Kounde is another defender who may be playing for a different club next term and he completes the back-line this week.

In midfield, the standout performer was Eduardo Camavinga who came very close to the player of the week crown. The 19 year old is already popular at the Santiago Bernabeu and it’ll be interesting to see whether he can forge his way into the XI on a more regular basis next term.

Up top, Barcelona’s Memphis Depay shone with the highest forward score of 87. The Dutchman is another whose future is uncertain given he has lost his place in the starting XI since a busy January at Camp Nou. The Catalans may well be tempted to cash in on Depay this summer.

Sorare Player of the Week: Jordi Alba (92)

The player of the week was Jordi Alba who was heavily involved throughout for Barcelona against Mallorca.

Sorare is a Fantasy Football platform with one of the most advanced scoring matrices. All players are scored from 0-100 based on performance. You can read our latest Sorare content here to find out more about it.
