Getafe vs Real Betis Preview

Getafe vs Mallorca

The Monday night game in LaLiga comes from the Coliseum and it sees Getafe in action against newly crowned Copa de Rey champions Real Betis. The visitors have had a week to celebrate and enjoy their success and can now relax to some extent with European qualification already guaranteed.

Getafe aren’t quite at that point yet where they can truly start to focus on next season. They are on 35 points which may yet prove enough to avoid relegation but one more win would all but make sure of it. Their survival prospects received a massive boost in their last game, a 2-0 win at Celta, Getafe’s first road victory of LaLiga 2021/22.

Getting home results has not been such an issue. Getafe had gone 10 home league games without defeat, winning 7 of them, heading into their most recent outing in South Madrid. A 2-1 defeat against Villarreal was a setback but they will still carry plenty of confidence into this game overall and they don’t have the feel of a team that is in serious danger of going down any more with Quique Sanchez Flores having done a wonderful job.

He’s perhaps even a coach of the year candidate given the mess Getafe were in when he took over but Manuel Pellegrini will take some beating when it comes to that. He has overseen a successful season on multiple fronts with Betis still in with an outside chance of clinching the final Champions League place, having also delivered what was only the club’s 4th ever major trophy last weekend as Betis defeated Valencia on penalties in the cup final.

There were many great storylines to come out of that game with Joaquin lifting the trophy at the age of 40 after boyhood Betis fan Juan Miranda had converted the winning penalty. This is certainly a good time to be a Betico and they will already be looking forward to another European campaign next term.

Getafe vs Real Betis Predictions

Score Prediction: Getafe 1-0 Betis

It’s tough to pick a winner here but with Real Madrid and Barcelona still to play, Betis may sense they are going to fall just short when it comes to seriously pushing for the top four. They may struggle to match the intensity they’ve found throughout much of the season in this one, particularly after the cup celebrations. Getafe won’t be lacking in motivation and may just have the edge in a fixture they usually enjoy.
