Elche vs Osasuna Preview
There are some big games this weekend in LaLiga but this doesn’t really feel like one of them. Elche are onto 38 points now and look safe for another year at this level while Osasuna are heading for another solid mid-table finish.
It looks like it will be three straight top flight seasons for Elche and that achievement would be a significant one. Not since the 1970’s have they managed to string more than a couple of Primera campaigns together and few expected them to do better than that when they were promoted in 2020. They were surprise play-off winners in a campaign that ended, just a few weeks before the next kicked off due to Covid-19 and problems at Fuenlabrada. Many of the players that helped Elche win promotion departed so it’s something of a miracle that they not only managed to stay up last term but have rebuilt and look set to comfortably avoid relegation this time around.
Both Fran Escriba and current boss Francisco deserve credit, as do the board who appear to have got the big decisions right on the coaching front and have at times shown ambition in the transfer market. They all but clinched safety in their most recent game, a 1-0 success at Betis, which made it back-to-back victories following a 3-0 home win over fellow strugglers Mallorca.
Osasuna meanwhile are looking forward to their fourth successive top flight campaign in 2022/23. They’ve been a consistent outfit during the past three years under Jagoba Arrasate and it’s perhaps a bit surprising that he hasn’t been linked with a bigger job with his good work at El Sadar largely going under the radar.
That can happen when you aren’t really involved in a relegation scrap or seriously pushing the top six but a series of mid-table finishes is still testament to a job very well done. They were beaten 3-1 at home by leaders Real Madrid in their last game but had won 3 of their previous 4 and remain on course for a top half finish.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 2 Osasuna Wins, 4 Draws.
- Elche have only won 1 of the last 9 league meetings.
- That was a 2-1 Segunda Division win in November 2015.
- The sides drew 1-1 at El Sadar earlier this term.

Elche vs Osasuna Predictions
Score Prediction: Elche 0-2 Osasuna
This is a tough game to call but Osasuna have been seriously impressive this season away to teams from mid-table and below. Indeed they’ve won 7 of their 10 road games against sides currently ranked outside the top six and overall they have a little bit more quality than Elche which could prove decisive over 90 minutes here.
