Rayo Vallecano vs Valencia Preview
The Monday night game in LaLiga this week comes from Vallecas and it’s a good chance for Rayo Vallecano to make a huge leap towards safety. With 6 of the 7 sides below them losing this weekend, it’s already been a pretty good matchday for Andoni Iraola’s side but they’d dearly love three points here against Valencia.
Rayo have three successive away games after this and given they’ve struggled all season on the road, they really could do with going into that sequence with at least one more point on the board. This is a side without a league win yet in 2022 although they came mighty close last time out, with Luis Milla’s 94th minute penalty denying them victory at Granada. That would have really given them breathing space at the bottom but Iraola would have been happy with the display and will hope it can be a building block for the run-in ahead.
The Madrid club won 8 of their opening 9 home league games this season but their recent decline in results in Vallecas, can partly be attributed to a tougher fixture list. Their last three visitors have been Real Madrid, Sevilla and Atletico Madrid and all of those were close games which saw them only concede once, so they’ve reason to take some confidence into this despite that long wait for a victory.
Valencia are in form though and could provide another really stern test. Their last six matches in all competitions have produced four wins and two draws, and they’ve only conceded one goal during that period. That’s a really positive sign for them moving forwards as they were leaking a few too many goals earlier in the campaign, but now seem to be showing more of the hallmarks of a Jose Bordalas side.
They might just be eyeing up two potential paths into Europe too. They will qualify for the Europa League if they defeat Real Betis in the Copa del Rey Final later this month. However the league option is also not off the table. Victory here would see them move to just 2 points off 7th placed Villarreal who are seemingly prioritising their Champions League campaign.

Rayo Vallecano vs Valencia Predictions
Score Prediction: Rayo Vallecano 0-0 Valencia
It’s tough to pick a winner here. Some of Valencia’s recent games have been dreadful spectacles with almost no goalmouth action. Rayo have been a bit more solid of late too with some good sides struggling to open them up in Vallecas, so a draw could be on the cards in this one.
