Levante vs Barcelona Preview

Levante match action

Sunday’s action in LaLiga ends at the Ciutat de Valencia with what could be one of the most entertaining games this weekend. There are usually goals galore whenever these sides meet here with a 3-3 draw last term while Levante were memorably 5-4 winners at the end of the 2017/18 season.

That strong home record they do have in this fixture, ought to give Levante belief that they are capable of causing an upset here. They will also be feeling much more confident after an excellent 2-0 win over Villarreal last weekend. Jose Luis Morales bagged a brace as Levante finally climbed off the bottom of the table having spent all winter in 20th place.

It would be an exaggeration to say there is now real belief that they are going to beat the drop but there is now genuine hope. They are 6 points from safety heading into the weekend but no side in the bottom 8 has scored more goals than them so there are some positives for Alessio Lisci to cling onto. Next week’s trip to fellow strugglers Granada is huge but Levante are a team with a taste for an upset and they will believe they are capable of getting a result.

This is though a Barcelona side which hasn’t lost a game inside 90 minutes since early December when they exited the Champions League in Munich, just days after their last league defeat against Betis. It would be somewhat typical of both Barcelona and Levante if that undefeated run was to end here but Xavi will be eager to ensure that doesn’t happen.

At the very least he will want to maintain an element of pressure on Real Madrid at the top, even if deep down he may know the title is out of reach. They’d been scoring for fun of late but have had it a bit tougher in their last two matches. Sevilla frustrated them at Camp Nou in LaLiga last weekend but Pedri’s moment of magic sealed a 1-0 win late on. Some light rotation and something of a sub-par display followed in the Europa League in Frankfurt but Ferran Torres’ 2nd Half strike sealed a draw that leaves Barcelona well placed to progress when the sides meet again on Thursday.

Levante vs Barcelona Predictions

Score Prediction: Levante 2-2 Barcelona

Levante are showing signs of life at the bottom and while they may have left themselves too much to do in terms of survival, they could still be difficult opponents for whoever faces them between now and the end of the campaign. With Gerard Pique an injury doubt, Barcelona could be vulnerable defensively here and Levante do have goals in them so another entertaining game between this pair may develop and the hosts may have enough to get something from the game.
