The Friday night game in LaLiga is an Andalusian derby at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan. It has been a really tough few weeks for Sevilla who have seen their hopes of league and Europa League glory end but they must regroup and go again as they bid to ensure they will be playing Champions League football again next season.

If there was any doubt left, Sevilla’s title dreams effectively ended last weekend with a 1-0 defeat at Camp Nou. It was only their third loss of the league campaign, fewer than Barcelona and the same number as Real Madrid. However, draws have been the death of Sevilla since the turn of the year with 12 in total in the league in 2021/22, seeing them slip down to 4th in the table, a familiar position for them in recent years.

They head into this game winless in four in LaLiga and failure to win again would be a real source of encouragement to rivals Real Betis and Real Sociedad who are hoping to push them all the way for the final Champions League slot. Julen Lopetegui will be hoping the return to fitness of Papu Gomez can help to spark a bit more life into them in the final third as they’ve been short on goal threats in recent weeks.

Granada though won’t be short of motivation with both Andalusian pride and more pertinently their own survival prospects on the line. They are 16th heading into this matchday and their last three games have all been against direct relegation rivals and they haven’t been short on drama.

Under the guidance of recently appointed caretaker boss Rubén Torrecilla, they’ve produced some late fireworks to come from 2-1 down to win 3-2 at Alaves before Luis Milla’s 94th minute penalty salvaged what may prove a vital point at home to Rayo Vallecano last time out. They will see any result as a bonus here and Torrecilla will already have half an eye on their key home game against fellow strugglers Levante next weekend. A result at the Sanchez-Pizjuan would be a massive boost heading into it.
