Valencia vs Cadiz Preview
Valencia and Cadiz meet at Mestalla for the second time in 2022 this weekend. Los Che won a Copa del Rey quarter-final between the clubs in February and are now really starting to look forward to their Final against Betis later this month.
Places are up for grabs in that side and Jose Bordalas certainly has some big decisions to make before the Final. One of those includes the identity of his goalkeeper. Jasper Cillessen is expected to be fit for this weekend’s game after a couple of months on the sidelines. He hasn’t done much wrong this term but 21 year old Giorgi Mamardashvili has done a fine job filling in and Valencia have been better defensively in recent weeks with the Georgian in goal.
That upturn may have more to do with Gabriel Paulista’s return from injury in truth and Bordalas will be very keen to ensure he stays fit for the trip to Seville. The good news is, with the likes of Jose Gaya also fit again, Valencia could be at full strength here which has seldom been the case this season. The former Getafe boss will have some selection headaches as a result following a solid 1-0 win at Elche last time out.
Cadiz appear to be in better shape now than they were when they travelled here for a Copa del Rey tie in February, which wasn’t a massive priority in any case. Despite a really challenging run-in in terms of difficult fixtures, Cadiz clearly still believe they can beat the drop and come into this game having lost just 1 of their last 6 in LaLiga.
The Sergio honeymoon period appears to be ongoing and crucially they’ve finally started winning some home games. Rayo Vallecano and Villarreal have both been defeated at the Nuevo Mirandilla in recent weeks with Cadiz surprisingly dominant last time out against Unai Emery’s side having 16 attempts on goal to their opponents’ 3 in a 1-0 win. Even the solitary defeat in that 6 game period was an unfortunate one as they gave a really good account of themselves in the 2-1 loss at the Wanda Metropolitano against Atletico Madrid.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 2 Valencia Wins, 1 Cadiz Win, 3 Draws.
- Valencia have won 3 of the last 4 meetings at Mestalla.
- They were 2-1 winners in a Copa del Rey tie in February.
- The reverse fixture in LaLiga ended 0-0 earlier this term.
Valencia vs Cadiz Predictions
Score Prediction: Valencia 1-0 Cadiz
Cadiz suddenly look like a competitive side again under new management and one that could give anyone a tough game on their day. However they are still a bit short on cutting edge and with Valencia expected to have all their key players available here, a home win looks the most likely outcome.
