Real Madrid travel to Balaidos this weekend as they look to bounce back from their Clasico beating. Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that he got his tactics wrong in that match and he won’t get many arguments there. His side should still end up with a league trophy to show for this season but Barça’s resurgence does suggest there may still be a bit of life in this title race yet and they do need to keep accumulating points.

Celta Vigo away is always a fixture that the big boys know can be tricky and the Galicians will be eyeing up an upset here. A run of just 1 win from 6 league games appears to have all but ended Celta’s European hopes though and they’ve failed to score in their last two, losing 1-0 at Villarreal before a 0-0 home draw with Betis. There will always be motivation in these games against the big clubs but it could become an issue after this matchday with Celta drifting towards a mid-table finish.

The main news involving the club in the week building up to this one has been of the unsavoury kind with forward Santi Mina finally standing trial for an alleged sexual assault in 2017. We should know the outcome in the coming weeks with the club adopting an “innocent until proven guilty” approach which has seen him continue to be involved in the matchday squad and usually the starting XI. Thiago Galhardo may take his place here though given Mina has been in Almeria all week and hasn’t trained with the team.

For Real Madrid, the international break brought the usual distraction of Gareth Bale miraculously rediscovering his fitness and best form for Wales. Even by the standards of the Spanish media, some of the criticism went overboard this time around but when you see Bale perform so well, you do wonder if Ancelotti could have tried to incorporate him more into his plans this term given nobody else has exactly nailed down the right wing slot.

With Karim Benzema out injured, the Italian adopted a most unorthodox approach to the Barcelona game with midfielders pushed up into forward roles but the whole thing quickly unravelled as Los Blancos slumped to a heavy 4-0 defeat. It could have been even more in truth and while Real Madrid do still have a 9 point lead at the top of LaLiga with 9 to play, they are no longer in a position where they can completely take their foot off the gas and rest players around their Champions League quarter-final tie with Chelsea.

Celta Vigo vs Real Madrid Predictions

Score Prediction: Celta 2-2 Real Madrid

After a really poor start at Balaidos, Celta Vigo have turned their home form around and have only lost 1 of their last 9 in front of their own fans in LaLiga. They could prove difficult opposition for Los Blancos here and Chacho Coudet’s men look capable of getting a result.
