Real Madrid vs Barcelona Preview

Real Madrid

The biggest game in club football takes place this weekend at the Santiago Bernabeu as LaLiga leaders Real Madrid host Barcelona in El Clasico. Both sides enter this tie in fine form and this looks set to be the most highly-anticipated Clasico since Cristiano Ronaldo left Real Madrid in 2018.

Los Blancos enter this fixture after a win at Mallorca on Monday night. Real did not have to step out of second gear as Mallorca gifted Carlo Ancelotti’s side two goals before Karim Benzema’s excellent header wrapped up the three points. This win came after Real’s astonishing comeback against PSG which saw Los Merengues advance to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

After a string of unconvincing performances in February, Real Madrid have once again brought back the form they showed in the earlier months of the season. Vinicius Jr and Karim Benzema have taken LaLiga by storm with 53 combined goals and assists in Spain’s top division this campaign. David Alaba and Eder Militao have formed a strong defensive partnership and Thibaut Courtois has shown why many consider him the best goalkeeper in the world.

Real Madrid currently sit ten points clear at the top of LaLiga. Their opposition come into this match after a smash-and-grab win against Galatasaray on Thursday evening. Despite a lacklustre performance, Barcelona would gladly have taken this result as it allowed them to advance to the quarter-finals of the Europa League in a rowdy atmosphere without wasting too much energy ahead of the huge clash this weekend.

Barca unsurprisingly got off to a poor start to the season after club legend Lionel Messi left in the summer transfer window after twenty-one years at the club. The Blaugrana were knocked out of the Champions League at the group phase but after replacing former manager Ronaldo Koeman with Xavi, the club have looked back to their best.

Although they are still displaying defensive frailty, Xavi’s side have shown patience on the ball whilst waiting for space to open up in the attacking third and January signings Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Adama Traore have fitted in with ease. Barca will be looking to win their fifth match in a row in LaLiga and just about seal a place in next season’s Champions League through the top four.

Real Madrid vs Barcelona Predictions

Score Prediction: Real Madrid 1-1 Barcelona

This fixture looks set to be the most entertaining LaLiga Clasico in a while and with both sides in form, it should be competitive from the first minute until the last. Karim Benzema’s lack of fitness will give Barca a huge boost as they will look to control the pace of the game in midfield whilst Los Blancos will likely look to hit on the break as they have done in the previous three meetings between the clubs.
