Celta Vigo and Real Betis meet in what has the potential to be one of the games of the weekend in LaLiga. The hosts are hoping to take advantage of what may be a tired Betis side that had to play for 120 minutes in Germany on Thursday night.

Chacho Coudet’s Celta may have a hard time finding motivation as this season draws to a close though. They are paying the price for a slow start and a relatively underwhelming home record with 10 points currently separating them from 7th placed Villarreal with 10 games to play. That effectively rules them out of European contention already but with 35 points on the board, they are very much safe.

This had the potential to be the season where Celta kicked on after a strong 2020/21 campaign following the arrival of Coudet and some decent business last summer. However it hasn’t quite happened and there may be a bit of soul-searching as to just why that is the case. They are not as dependent on Iago Aspas as they once were, however there are still some tweaks and adjustments that may be needed to fully unleash the potential of this side. It’ll be interesting to see how they use these final 10 games as in theory it’s an opportunity to experiment a bit with Coudet having stayed loyal to his preferred 4-1-3-2 approach this term.

As for Real Betis, they come into this game having experienced a range of emotions in Frankfurt on Thursday night. 2-1 down from the 1st Leg of their Europa League Last 16 tie, they looked on the brink of elimination only for Borja Iglesias to pop up with a last minute goal to force Extra Time. However they would then concede a goal in the final minute of Extra Time to exit the competition 3-2 on aggregate.

They still have a Copa del Rey Final to look forward to but for now the focus must return to battling for European qualification once more via LaLiga. They are 5th as it stands heading into this matchday but were they to lose the cup Final against Valencia, they would need to finish at least 5th to be in the Europa League again and that won’t be easy with Real Sociedad and Villarreal breathing down their necks.

Celta Vigo vs Real Betis Predictions

Score Prediction: Celta Vigo 2-1 Real Betis

You fear a bit for Betis here with fatigue already seemingly a factor in their dip in form and they certainly won’t be any fresher here after their German adventure in midweek. The suspension of Nabail Fekir, who needlessly got sent off for kicking out at an opponent last weekend, is another significant blow. A home win could be the result.
