Alaves vs Granada Preview

Alaves and Granada face off in a massive relegation six pointer this weekend in LaLiga. Just 3 points separate the teams in 19th and 17th places in the Spanish top flight heading into matchday 29 and both sides are in desperate need of a victory here.
For Alaves, this feels like it could be a season-defining game. They’ve won just once since appointing José Luis Mendilibar in late December but the former Eibar boss can point to a relatively tough schedule as a major factor in that. Their recent showings have not been too bad with draws against Getafe and Sevilla prior to a narrow 1-0 loss at Real Sociedad last time out.
Alaves do have on paper perhaps the best run-in of the sides at the bottom and this will not be the last six-pointer for them before the end of the campaign. However the time has certainly come now where they simply need to start winning a few football matches otherwise matters may be well and truly out of their hands before the final couple of games where they meet Levante and Cadiz, the other two sides currently in the drop-zone.
Granada are in freefall with just one point from their last eight league games making them the division’s most out of form side. The plan was pretty clear as they fired Robert Moreno and brought in interim boss Rubén Torrecilla before a potentially decisive period in their season with several games against relegation rivals, starting with the home clash with Elche last time out.
However Torrecilla failed to spark an instant revival as Granada sunk to a 1-0 defeat at Los Carmenes. With the international break following this game, it feels decisive for Torrecilla’s chances of still being in charge when we return in a fortnight and Granada’s Chinese owners will want a result here and clear evidence that the club’s B team boss, who has been compared to Diego Martinez in terms of his style of play, is the man to turn their fortunes around.

Alaves vs Granada Predictions
Score Prediction: Alaves 1-0 Granada
There’s not a lot to like about either of these sides at the moment. Alaves have shown just a bit more in recent weeks though and with home advantage look the more likely victors, something which may force Granada into looking for a new boss over the international break.
