Valencia vs Granada Preview
After a night of celebrations in midweek, Mestalla won’t be quite as rowdy for the visit of Granada in LaLiga, as Valencia aim to build on their cup success. This is a bigger game for the visitors though who are in the thick of the relegation scrap.
Valencia saw off Athletic Club 1-0 on Wednesday night thanks to a rocket from Goncalo Guedes which sent them into a Copa del Rey Final against Real Betis in Seville. Unquestionably that will now be the major focal point for Los Che this season as they don’t appear to have an awful lot to play for in LaLiga.
The cup win served up the latest evidence that Jose Bordalas was the right man for the job and crucially the fans appear to have united behind this team and bought into what they are trying to do, even if they continue to resent those running the club. Valencia’s combative style has delivered results and excitement is already building ahead of their trip to Seville next month. Valencia will be desperately hoping they can get key men fit for that game with Jose Gaya sidelined again through injury along with first choice keeper Jasper Cillessen. They’ll also look to nurse key centre-back Gabriel Paulista through but so far he has coped well with the return to action over the past week after significant injury problems.
Granada perhaps wouldn’t have been too disappointed to see Valencia win on Wednesday night given the celebrations that followed. They’ll be hoping to catch them cold here and Robert Moreno may send his side out to really press hard from the first whistle in the hope of nicking an early goal.
The Andalusian side could certainly do with a boost. They’ve been stuttering badly of late with five straight defeats heading into their crucial six-pointer against relegation rivals Cadiz last time out. The last thing they needed was to see Domingos Duarte sent off with just 33 minutes on the clock but in the circumstances, ending the game with a 0-0 draw would have felt almost like a morale victory and importantly it maintained Granada’s 4 point advantage on the relegation zone.

Valencia vs Granada Predictions
Score Prediction: Valencia 1-1 Granada
Valencia may be experiencing a slight hangover after their cup win and they do have plenty of absentees too to contend with here. That offers hope to Granada who look capable of taking a point from the game and edging a little bit closer to safety, although that will depend on other results this weekend.
