Cadiz vs Rayo Vallecano Preview

Cadiz and Rayo Vallecano meet on Sunday in what feels like a massive game for the hosts. Cadiz haven’t won at home all season but they surely won’t get a better opportunity to break their duck with Rayo badly out of form and having been involved in a cup Semi-Final on Thursday night.

While Rayo aren’t a direct relegation rival, Cadiz will still be placing huge importance on this fixture. They are fresh from a genuine six-pointer at Granada which ended in a 0-0 draw. Not a terrible result on the face of it, but you could sense by the expressions on the Cadiz players and supporters at the end, that they felt it was an opportunity missed. Granada had been reduced to 10 men in just the 33rd minute but Cadiz failed to make their numerical superiority count on a frustrating night at Los Carmenes.

That was their third straight league draw having been held at home by Getafe and Celta Vigo. Indeed it’s just 1 defeat in 6 league games now, an upturn in fortunes following the appointment of Sergio. However you still sense they are most likely going to end up regretting not going the extra mile and winning a couple more of those games with their only victory during that period at bottom club Levante. The fixture list has been pretty kind to Sergio so far too but with tougher games to come, three points feels like a must here.

Rayo Vallecano endured a rollercoaster of emotions in the latter stages of their Copa del Rey Semi-Final at Betis on Thursday night. 2-1 down from the home 1st Leg and with no form whatsoever to take into the match, Rayo were surprisingly competitive and levelled the tie on aggregate in the 80th minutes thanks to an absolutely stunning goal from Bebe who fired in a curling free-kick from long-range. However they were ultimately dealt a bitter late blow as Borja Iglesias bundled home the deceive goal for Betis in Stoppage Time.

Andoni Iraola’s side must pick themselves up and go again here but they don’t take much confidence into this game having lost their last 5 league matches. With 31 points on the board already, Rayo shouldn’t really get dragged into a relegation battle from this position but they are going to need a couple more victories you’d imagine, before they can firmly start planning for next season in the top flight.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 1 Cadiz Win, 1 Rayo Win, 4 Draws.
  • Rayo won 3-1 when the sides met earlier this term in Vallecas.
  • The previous 3 meetings all ended in 1-1 draws.
  • Cadiz’s last win was via a 1-0 margin at home in the Segunda in 2017.

Cadiz vs Rayo Vallecano Predictions

Score Prediction: Cadiz 2-0 Rayo Vallecano

This may be the day when Cadiz finally get that elusive home victory in LaLiga, something their fans have been waiting so long for. Rayo will be both physically and emotionally drained you’d imagine after their efforts at the Benito Villamarin and Cadiz will be hoping to take full advantage.
