Real Betis vs Mallorca Preview
Mallorca are in Seville this weekend to take on Real Betis in LaLiga. The visitors are in the thick of a relegation scrap and will see any result as a bonus here against a red hot Betis side that is making good progress on all fronts.
Having already put one foot in the Copa del Rey Final by beating Rayo away in the 1st Leg of their Semi-Final, Betis made a big step towards the last 16 of the Europa League on Thursday night with a 3-2 win at Zenit. That was all the more impressive given they were missing key men such as Nabil Fekir and Sergio Canales but Betis showed they have real depth by still seeing off the Russian league leaders with 40 year old Joaquin rolling back the years in midfield.
Both Canales and Fekir may be available here which spells trouble for Mallorca. Despite their cup commitments, Betis have maintained good form in LaLiga, winning 3 of their last 4 matches including a 4-2 win at Levante last weekend. They are in 3rd place heading into this weekend with a 4 point advantage on both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, who have to be taking Betis’ top four challenge very seriously now, if they weren’t already.
Mallorca are also a team that ought to be full of belief right now. Back-to-back league wins heading into this game have given their survival hopes a massive boost. Both came at home with Take Kubo’s late strike, deflecting in via a combination of post and Unai Simon, giving them a 3-2 win over Athletic on Monday night.
Having beaten Cadiz the weekend before, Mallorca suddenly find themselves 6 points clear of the relegation places heading into this matchday. The January signing of targetman Vedat Muriqi has given their attack a much needed other dimension and some of their more technical players appear to be feeding off that. They haven’t been as convincing away this season though, with 9 goals conceded across their last 3 road games, all of which ended in defeat.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 3 Betis Wins, 1 Mallorca Win, 2 Draws.
- The last 2 meetings have been drawn including a 1-1 draw earlier this term in Palma.
- None of the last 4 meetings between these clubs have produced a win for the team playing at home.
- The most recent clash in Seville produced a 3-3 cracker in February 2020.
Miranda is missing through injury for Betis but Sergio Canales could return.
Brian Oliván is suspended for Mallorca. Angel and Iddrisu Baba are doubtful with injuries.
Real Betis vs Mallorca Predictions
Score Prediction: Real Betis 3-1 Mallorca
Both sides take momentum into the game and Mallorca do look to be showing a bit more in the final third which suggests they could get on the scoresheet here. Betis have had a long trip to Russia to deal with but there is depth to the squad and most of their key attacking players didn’t start that game in any case so there should be enough fresh legs in the home side to see off the challenge of the Balearic Islanders here.
