Granada vs Villarreal Preview
Granada and Villarreal face off in the first game this Saturday in LaLiga. The visitors are just days away from a Champions League clash with Juventus and will be hungry to head into that game on the right note, but will also be wary of the need to keep players fit and fresh.
Granada will be hoping to capitalise on the latter but their recent form suggests they may struggle to do that. Robert Moreno’s side have lost all of their last four matches in LaLiga, the last three without even scoring a goal. While they can be forgiven for losing away to Real Madrid and Real Sociedad in their last two outings, a 2-0 defeat against Osasuna in their last home fixture was more concerning.
They were really active in January, signing the likes of Matias Arezo, Myrto Uzuni and Alex Collado. All three started their defeat in Donostia last time out and while it’s exciting to see what they can produce in the long-term, right now you wonder if Granada might be better off trying to ease their new arrivals in more gradually. They were very much second best against La Real who created 3.44 xG in that game and Granada will need to keep it tighter here.
Villarreal are one of the most free-scoring teams in LaLiga with their tally of 38 goals, the joint 4th best goalscoring record. There were no goals in their last match though, a 0-0 home draw against Real Madrid and Unai Emery would have been happy with what was a 3rd straight clean sheet in LaLiga.
He will be forced into some defensive changes here though with Raul Albiol suspended. They are also sweating over the fitness of key forward Gerard Moreno with that Juve tie on the horizon and his absence means they do need to find other solutions in the final third. Arnaut Danjuma may lead the line as a result in this game and while he has impressed throughout much of his first season in LaLiga, the Dutchman is not a natural striker.

Granada vs Villarreal Predictions
Score Prediction: Granada 1-1 Villarreal
Granada have been out of sorts in recent weeks and this is certainly a chance for Villarreal to make up further ground on the top four. However with Albiol missing at the back, Gerard Moreno absent up front and one eye on their UCL tie, it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see the Yellow Submarine only walk away with a point here.
