Espanyol vs Sevilla Preview

What a game we have in store for this weekend in Barcelona as Catalan side Espanyol host high flying Sevilla at the RCDE Stadium.

Espanyol will be going into this match with a lot of disappointment but will be ready to fight tooth and nail for a win. Head Coach Vicente Moreno will want his side to play like they did in their last outing in which they almost beat local rivals Barcelona in what was a fantastic all round team performance from Los Periquitos but they were cruelly denied all three points courtesy of a 96th minute equaliser from Luuk de Jong.

Espanyol’s issues at the moment are that they are leaking far too many goals and that could cost them going into the latter parts of the season. They do not want to see themselves drop into a relegation battle. Vicente Moreno’s men are winless in the league in 2022 and that is something that will need to change rather soon. What will fill his side with confidence is that the 21 points out of the 28 they have gained have come on home soil.

Sevilla travel here in fine form sitting 2nd in the league and only four points from leaders Real Madrid. They are unbeaten in their last ten games and we are still seriously wondering if this can be their year?

Head Coach Julen Lopetegui certainly thinks so. Los Sevillistas Rojiblancos have the best defence record in the league only conceding 16 goals. In their last outings they comfortably beat Elche 2-0 and followed that up in mid-week with a 3-1 victory over Dinamo Zagreb in which they could have got even more goals. Sevilla’s last three trips here have produced wins without conceding and that will be something they will want to do again.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 5 Sevilla Wins, 1 Draw.
  • Sevilla won 2-0 when the teams met earlier this term.
  • They’ve won to nil on all of their last 3 trips to the RCDE Stadium.
  • Their last defeat here was by a 3-1 margin in 2017.

Team News

Nico Melamed and Manu Morlanes are both suspended for Espanyol after receiving red cards in the match with Barcelona.

Sevilla are expected to be without Erik Lamela, Gonzalo Montiel and Suso due to injuries. Marcos Acuña is suspended.

Espanyol vs Sevilla Predictions

Score Prediction: Espanyol 2-3 Sevilla

In what could be a really entertaining game you wouldn’t put it past Sevilla scoring first as they have done on several occasions this season but the fight that Espanyol have put up against the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona shows they are no pushovers and especially at their home ground. However history shows Sevilla like playing here and given the form they are in, they look capable of getting the win.
