Cadiz vs Celta Vigo Preview
Cadiz and Celta Vigo meet in the opening game this Saturday in LaLiga. The hosts are 5 points from safety heading into the weekend and they really can’t afford to wait any longer for that first home win of the season. It won’t come easily though with Celta useful travellers.
Cadiz did make a reasonably encouraging start to life under Sergio and picked up an important three points at bottom club Levante three weeks ago. Things started brightly in another relegation six pointer at Mallorca last time out as new signing Ruben Alcaraz scored a screamer to put them in front after just 8 minutes. However two penalties saw Mallorca come back to claim a decisive victory which really alters the picture at the foot of the table.
With 4 of their next 6 games at home, Cadiz desperately need to get that monkey off their back and finally give their loyal fans something to shout about. The stats don’t make for good reading though with Cadiz only averaging 0.73 goals per home game this term with their 11 outings on home soil producing 6 draws and 5 defeats.
They may struggle to create a great deal here against a Celta Vigo side with a surprisingly good away defensive record. They average just 0.91 goals per game conceded this term and apart from a 5-2 loss at Real Madrid, the Galician side have let in just 5 goals in 10 road fixtures which is a very impressive record for a mid-table side, not to mention one that hasn’t always been known for their defensive prowess.
Celta have been steadily climbing the table in recent weeks without anyone really noticing. Routine home wins over Osasuna and Rayo Vallecano, either side of a draw at Sevilla, have pushed them into the top half. A potential European push, which would have been the aim at the start of the campaign, is starting to look possible again and they’ll head to Andalusia targeting three points.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 1 Cadiz Win, 4 Celta Wins, 1 Draw.
- Cadiz were surprise 2-1 winners in Vigo earlier this term.
- Celta took 4 points from the 2 meetings last term, including a 4-0 home win.
- Cadiz have won 3 of their last 6 home games against Celta, losing just 1.
Fali is out injured for Cadiz. Choco Lozano is available once more following a ban.
Celta Vigo look set to have a fully fit and available squad for this game.
Cadiz vs Celta Vigo Predictions
Score Prediction: Cadiz 1-1 Celta Vigo
It’s tough to pick a winner here. Cadiz would have been left wounded after that defeat at Mallorca last weekend but they have shown a bit more since Sergio took over and look capable of picking up a point from the game, but that will do little to ease their relegation worries in truth.
