Getafe vs Levante Preview

Getafe match action

LaLiga returns this Friday night with another big game at the bottom of the table. Getafe and Levante were both winless after 8 games and both decided to wield the axe with relegation the usual fate for sides who make such poor starts to a season. However while Getafe have certainly turned a corner since under new management, things have only gone from bad to worse for Levante.

This feels like a really good opportunity for Getafe to put distance between themselves and the relegation scrap. They had just one point at that 8-game mark but would go 7 clear of the drop-zone with victory here and that really would cap a remarkable turnaround under Quique Sanchez-Flores.

He has improved matters in just about every department. Defensively they’ve been outstanding of late with their three centre backs particularly impressive. The latest evidence of that was a hard-fought 0-0 draw in Donostia last time out, a terrific result especially in the absence of their first-choice forwards Sandro Ramirez and Enes Unal due to suspension. The duo should return here although Getafe do now have fresh options in the final third following the January additions of Borja Mayoral and Oscar Rodriguez, who both started at Real Sociedad.

Levante by contrast have the feel of a club that has accepted their fate. A damaging 2-0 home defeat against relegation rivals Cadiz last time out, has restored the doom and gloom that has been hanging over the Ciutat de Valencia this term. That was an especially bitter blow coming on the back of that long overdue first win against Mallorca and appears to have quashed any hope that the victory over Luis Garcia’s side would be a turning point moment in their campaign.

Their lack of January activity speaks volumes. Just one player was added, defender Martin Caceres on a short-term deal until the end of the campaign. The experienced Uruguayan may bolster their defence slightly but you can’t help but think that if Levante seriously believed they could beat the drop, they would have been much more active.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 2 Getafe Wins, 2 Levante Wins, 2 Draws.
  • Getafe have won 4 of their last 6 home games against Levante.
  • They scored 11 goals across those 4 victories including a 4-0 win in 2019 but Levante did claim two 1-0 wins at Getafe in 2018.
  • The sides drew 0-0 in Valencia earlier this term.

Team News

Enes Unal and Sandro return from suspensions for Getafe. Vitolo is also available and the home team should be close to full strength.

Jose Campana and Jose Luis Morales both serve suspensions for Levante.

Possible Lineups

Getafe vs Levante Predictions

Score Prediction: Getafe 3-0 Levante

It’s tough to see past a home win here with Getafe a resurgent force of late and having reeled off 3 straight home wins heading into this match. Levante by contrast have let in 12 goals in their last 3 away games alone and as if their problems weren’t bad enough, they are missing arguably their two best players to suspension here in the shape of Jose Campana and Jose Luis Morales. If a much improved Getafe can get ahead early on here, they could dominate this game and put a few goals past what is by far LaLiga’s shakiest defence.
