Granada vs Osasuna Preview
Granada and Osasuna face off this Sunday in a meeting of two bottom half teams in LaLiga. These two clubs have had similar trajectories in recent years, winning promotion together in 2019 before establishing themselves in the top flight with surprising ease in truth.
This season did potentially spell trouble for Granada as they readjusted to life after Diego Martinez who did such a good job at Los Carmenes for so long. Robert Moreno wasn’t exactly an instant hit but has won plenty of fans around with some improved performances and results in recent weeks. Indeed Granada were unbeaten in 7 games heading into their midweek trip to Getafe and threatening to pull clear of trouble.
At the Coliseum came a setback though. In a surprisingly entertaining game, Granada couldn’t handle Getafe’s forward play and slumped to a 4-2 defeat despite a brace from the increasingly impressive Luis Suarez. That was a real setback for Granada but their excellent recent results have still given them a bit of breathing space and they are 7 points clear of the bottom three heading into this weekend.
Osasuna are a point better off but you sense the mood in their camp won’t be quite as cheery. It has been a tough few months for the Pamplona side with a 2-0 win over lowly Cadiz in their last home game, just about their only recent cause for cheer. They have lost 3 of their last 4 in LaLiga overall with a 2-0 loss at Celta Vigo the latest setback in midweek.
Jagoba Arrasate perhaps needs to try and mix things up a bit and find solutions as they can be a fairly predictable side to play against at times. They are usually still pretty tough to break down but were hampered badly in midweek by missing centre-backs David Garcia and Unai Garcia who both tested positive for Covid-19. Their chances of getting a positive result here may largely depend on getting at least one of those players back but it could be touch and go.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 3 Granada Wins, 2 Osasuna Wins, 1 Draw.
- The sides drew 1-1 in Pamplona earlier in the season.
- Granada have won all of the last 3 meetings at Los Carmenes to nil.
- Osasuna haven’t won on any of their last 6 visits.
Granada are likely to be missing Santiago Arias to injury again but are hoping to have Ruben Rochina available.
Cote and Aridane are injury doubts for Osasuna while David Garcia and Unai Garcia recently tested positive for Covid-19 and could miss out again.
Granada vs Osasuna Predictions
Score Prediction: Granada 2-0 Osasuna
Since winning their first four away league games this season, Osasuna have gone six road matches without scoring in LaLiga. That’s clearly a worrying trend and their current central defensive selection issues suggest they may need at least a goal to stand a chance of getting a result here. A home win looks most likely.
