Celta Vigo vs Osasuna Preview
Wednesday’s action in LaLiga kicks off at Balaidos as two sides from opposite ends of Northern Spain clash. Celta Vigo and Osasuna are both in the bottom half of LaLiga and may just be starting to get a bit jittery with teams below them such as Elche and Getafe starting to pick up a few results.
In truth both clubs should have more than enough to stay in LaLiga. Celta’s pre-season ambitions were more centred around pushing for Europe but that certainly hasn’t materialised as they were hoping. They started 2022 on the right note with an excellent win at Betis but it hasn’t proved to be a real launchpad for the Galicians with subsequent defeats against minnows Atletico Baleares in the Copa del Rey and Real Sociedad in LaLiga.
If Celta can find a run of form, it’s still possible they could get close to challenging for 7th which would most likely bring with it European football. It’s not too late to mount a challenge but they did to improve on a miserable home record which has seen them win just twice at Balaidos this term, losing six.
Osasuna were away day specialists earlier in the campaign, winning their first four road games. However that must seem a long time ago now for Jagoba Arrasate’s men who haven’t managed to even score an away league goal since then. Their overall form has been pretty poor too although they did finally get back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory at home to Cadiz last time out.
They are two points better off than their opponents here but they do look a bit short in some departments to really challenge for anything more than a mid-table finish. Their hopes in this game aren’t aided by a Covid outbreak in their camp with key centre-back David Garcia and fellow defender Unai Garcia having tested positive in recent days.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 2 Celta Wins, 2 Osasuna Wins, 2 Draws.
- Celta are unbeaten in 5 home games against Osasuna.
- The sides played out a 0-0 draw earlier this season in Pamplona.
- There hasn’t been an away win between these sides since a 2-0 Celta win at El Sadar in 2014.
Renato Tapia is a doubt for Celta Vigo, as is Augusto Solari.
David Garcia and Unai Garcia have tested positive for Covid and are expected to miss this game for Osasuna. Aridane Hernández remains a doubt.
Celta Vigo vs Osasuna Predictions
Score Prediction: Celta Vigo 2-0 Osasuna
Celta Vigo haven’t been great at home this season but would have taken confidence from their 3-1 win over Espanyol last time out at Balaidos. There is still a sense that there’s more to come from this team this season and with Osasuna missing a few players and having failed to score a single away league goal in more than three months, the hosts look good for the win here.
