Granada vs Barcelona Preview

Granada in action in LaLiga

Barcelona travel to Los Cármenes on Saturday hoping to break into the top four this weekend. It won’t be easy though against an in-form Granada side that has put distance between themselves and the bottom three in recent weeks.

Robert Moreno deserves credit for riding out the storm and he is gradually showing that he may just have been the right man for the job after all. Succeeding Diego Martinez was never going to be easier but gradually Moreno has found solutions and got this Granada side believing again and they come into this game unbeaten in six in LaLiga.

Crucially there have been three wins in that period with Alaves, Mallorca and Atletico Madrid all defeated in their last three outings at home. Veteran striker Jorge Molina has been key in those games and his partnership with Luis Suarez up top will keep Barcelona’s often shaky defence busy here. The duo have scored 11 goals between them this season in LaLiga with 39-year-old Molina top scoring for his team with seven.

Barcelona meanwhile only have two players who have scored more than two league goals this term with Memphis well ahead of the rest on eight. The Dutchman remains an injury doubt so Xavi will again most likely be forced into trying to find solutions in the final third from a relatively sparse set of options, not helped by the registration issues surrounding new signing Ferran Torres.

The new Barca boss deserves some credit for overseeing a victory at Mallorca last weekend despite a huge number of injuries and Covid cases with Luuk de Jong the unlikely match-winner. He should start again up top here and there may even be a start for Dani Alves who featured in the Copa del Rey win at Linares in midweek and has now been registered in the league squad.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 3 Barcelona Wins, 2 Granada Wins, 1 Draw.
  • All of the last 3 meetings have seen both teams score.
  • Barcelona have won on 5 of their last 6 trips to Los Carmenes.
  • The exception was a 2-0 defeat in September 2019.

Team News

Santiago Arias is out for the hosts. German Sanchez and Ruben Rochina remain Covid doubts.

Ferran Torres has not been registered yet for Barcelona who may still be missing Memphis, Ansu Fati and Pedri. Ronaldo Araujo and Martin Braithwaite are definitely out.

Possible Lineups

Granada vs Barcelona Predictions

Score Prediction: Granada 2-2 Barcelona

This could be a good game as Granada are really firing at home right now and they have goals in them which could spell trouble for this Barcelona defence. The visitors are still expected to be missing a number of key men but the situation is improving and they ought to still have enough to get a result from what suddenly feels like quite a tricky fixture for them.
