Real Sociedad vs Celta Vigo Preview
The second game on Saturday in LaLiga comes from the Reale Arena and it sees an out of form Real Sociedad side hoping to get back to winning ways. It won’t be easy though against an improving Celta Vigo who have been going very nicely on their travels.
Imanol will be hoping that the new year can spark an upturn in Real Sociedad’s form. They ended 2021 with four straight league defeats and are down in 7th place now after a 1-1 draw at Basque rivals Alaves last weekend. They are still only two points off the top four though and for now pushing for UCL qualification still seems like a realistic objective for this talented young team but it’s looking a much tougher prospect than it did a few weeks back.
The good news for followers of La Real is that they are now in a position to field something very close to their strongest eleven, which certainly hasn’t been the case for much of this season. They fielded a strong side in the Copa del Rey in midweek and a 3-2 win at Leganes thanks to a brace from Mikel Oyarzabal and one from Alexander Isak makes them one of the favourites in that competition too. However with European football on the horizon again, Imanol may need to decide what his priorities are before too long as it’s going to be a big ask to keep fighting on all fronts if they do continue to make progress in the cups.
Celta Vigo have no such worries in that regard. They were sent packing in the Copa del Rey by third tier Atletico Baleares on Wednesday night. Chacho Coudet opted to rest key players before making four Half-Time substitutions in that game in an attempt to rescue the situation but it was a miserable night for the Galicians who may just have fancied their chances of having a decent run in the cup.
In LaLiga though, things are improving, particularly away from home. They’ve not lost any of their last 5 away league games with victories at Getafe, Alaves and Betis to celebrate. Their 2-0 win at the Benito Villamarin last weekend was particularly impressive and they just seem happier on their travels at the moment.

Real Sociedad vs Celta Vigo Predictions
Score Prediction: Real Sociedad 1-1 Celta Vigo
It’s hard to pick a winner here. Real Sociedad do have more quality on paper but are not on top of their game right now and are struggling to put three points on the board in LaLiga. Celta are playing well on the road and look capable of getting a result here.
