Following the bitter disappointment of their Champions League exit, Barcelona travel to El Sadar this weekend looking for a morale boosting win against Osasuna. The hosts aren’t in great form either and have struggled to put three points on the board at home this season.

In fact just 1 of Osasuna’s 5 league wins so far have come at El Sadar. That’s a bit of a surprise as their own ground has often been a real fortress for them, particularly during their promotion winning season in 2018/19. The Pamplona side have secured 10th and 11th place finishes in the top flight since then and they are bang on course to repeat that right now with Jagoba Arrasate’s men 10th heading into this weekend.

The Osasuna boss will though be a bit concerned by a 7 game winless streak in LaLiga. They’ve only managed to score one goal in their last six outings and that was a penalty against Elche. Chimy Avila’s strike against Granada on October 22nd was their last league goal from open play so Barcelona’s defence won’t be expecting the sternest of examinations here.

The Catalan giants come into this game in a week when they’ve dropped into the Europa League, losing 3-0 at Bayern in their final Champions League group game. It’s a fresh low for Barcelona but it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise given their decline in recent years, not to mention the amount of firepower that was removed from this team last summer.

Between them, Leo Messi and Antoine Griezmann netted 58 times last season for Barcelona in all competitions and even the much maligned Frenchman is being missed. It was never realistic to expect Memphis Depay to fully take over that burden but his return of 8 goals from 21 competitive outings is disappointing when you consider 3 of those were penalties. He’s not had much help from his teammates and Barcelona find themselves in the very unfamiliar position of struggling to score goals.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 4 Barcelona Wins, 1 Osasuna Win, 1 Draw.
  • Barcelona are unbeaten on their last 5 visits to this ground.
  • They won both meetings to nil last season.
  • Osasuna’s last victory over the Catalans came via 2-1 margin at Camp Nou in 2019/20.

Team News

Juan Perez is a doubt for Osasuna. Jesús Areso is injured.

Martin Braithwaite, Pedri and Ansu Fati are still out injured, along with Jordi Alba and Sergi Roberto. Memphis Depay is also a fresh injury absentee adding to Barcelona’s woes.

Possible Lineups

Osasuna vs Barcelona Predictions

Score Prediction: Osasuna 0-0 Barcelona

Any initial bounce for Xavi is now surely over after defeats to nil against Betis and Bayern and an injury to Memphis will add to their problems trying to score goals. El Sadar is never an easy place to go and while Osasuna are struggling to win at home, they are still an awkward side to play against and may have enough to grind out a result here.
