Levante vs Osasuna Preview

Levante and Osasuna clash on Sunday as the hosts once more try to finally end this long wait for a league victory. They will be up against a competitive Osasuna side but one that is on a poor run of form themselves heading into their trip to Valencia.
The hosts sacked coach Javier Pereira earlier this week after just seven winless matches in charge. Their decision to fire Paco Lopez, the most successful coach in the club’s history, has quickly looked like a foolish one and there is even talk Lopez may return. As it is, interim boss Alessio Lisci has the chance to stake his claim for the job and he didn’t do his chances any harm with an 8-0 Copa del Rey victory in midweek.
Levante unleashed all the frustration that has built up over a 23 game unbeaten run in LaLiga on poor Huracan Melilla who didn’t manage to have a single attempt in the match. That would have provided a much needed confidence boost to the likes of Roberto Soldado and Dani Gomez who both netted braces in the game while teenager Álex Blesa fired in a hat-trick. However clearly this will be considerably tougher for a Levante side that will just take any kind of league victory at this point.
Osasuna won’t be full of confidence either heading into this. They’ve fallen away after a strong start in LaLiga with no wins and just 3 points from their last 6 league outings. They’ve had some tricky fixtures but would have been disappointed not to win their home game against Elche on Monday night in LaLiga having taken the lead very early via an Ante Budimir penalty.
They’ve now gone five and a half league games without scoring from open play since Chimy Avila struck against Granada. The Pamplona side struggled to create much in the opening 45 minutes in the Copa del Rey in midweek either before ultimately netting 4 times in a stronger 2nd Half showing against 6th tier minnows San Agustin. They can still take confidence heading into this game from their excellent away record with an average of 1.86 points on the road, the 3rd best away record in LaLiga behind the Madrid clubs.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 3 Levante Wins, 2 Osasuna Wins, 1 Draw.
- Both meetings last season ended in away wins.
- Osasuna have won on 3 of their last 5 visits to this ground.
- Levante’s only win during that period was a 2-0 success in March 2013.
Team News
Gonzalo Melero and Sergio Postigo are doubts for Levante.
Osasuna have no major issues although Rober Ibanez has been suffering from Covid-19 and may not be ready.
Possible Lineups
Levante vs Osasuna Predictions
Score Prediction: Levante 1-1 Osasuna
It’s tough to make a strong case for either side winning this. Levante at least got to finally taste that winning feeling again in midweek but repeating the trick in LaLiga is a very different proposition. Osasuna are out of form though and offering precious little going forwards right now so a low-scoring draw may be the most likely outcome.
