Elche vs Cadiz Preview
Elche and Cadiz clash in an important game at the bottom of LaLiga on Sunday. Along with winless Levante, these are arguably the two clearest relegation candidates and results in these kinds of matches can go a long way to determining which teams stay up at the end of the season.
It was a 3-1 away win at Cadiz in May which was vital in ensuring Elche stayed in the top flight under Fran Escriba last season. However such is the nature of modern football, that an unconvincing start to this term has seen Escriba removed from his role and former Girona and Huesca boss Francisco placed in charge.
He was little more than an interested spectator for the trip to Osasuna on Monday night but he’d have been happy enough with the result as Elche secured a decent point at El Sadar thanks to a goal from Fidel Chaves. He did oversee his team’s trip to Leioa in the Copa del Rey in midweek as two goals from Guido Carrillo saw Elche safely through. This game though is far more important and three points would be a massive early boost for the new boss.
Cadiz look like a team that is going to find it really difficult to stay up this season, mostly because they are finding it impossible to win home games. It’s just 4 points from 8 games on their own ground this season, the worst record in LaLiga but they are a more dangerous team on the road where it’s easier for them to soak up pressure and strike on the break.
Victories in Vigo and Bilbao have ensured they have by no means been cut adrift but you do feel as though Alvaro Cervera needs to come up with a Plan B and fast after his team suffered back-to-back defeats against Getafe and Atletico Madrid heading into this, conceding 4 on both occasions. They hit seven in the Copa del Rey in midweek with Alvaro Negredo netting a hat-trick but they really need to find their shooting boots in LaLiga whilst also tightening up at the back with only Levante having let in more goals this term in the Spanish top flight.

Elche vs Cadiz Predictions
Score Prediction: Elche 2-1 Cadiz
Cadiz’s 4-0 collapse at a usually shot-shy Getafe in their last away game was a really worrying result and you fear things could fall apart altogether with most teams having now found a way to combat their distinctive low-possession style. Under new management and with home advantage, Elche look capable of picking up all the points.
