The pick of the weekend’s games before a ball was kicked was at the Santiago Bernabeu with Real Madrid hosting Sevilla. To some extent it lived up to the billing, at least in terms of quality on the ball with both sides completing 89% of their passes, a joint weekend high. Sevilla were very competitive in the game and created slightly more xG but succumbed to a late golazo from Vini Junior.
We also saw two under-performing teams clash as Barcelona travelled to the Ceramica. Villarreal had their moments again and caused plenty of problems for the visiting defence but Barça created plenty of chances too with the most xG this weekend in LaLiga in what was ultimately a 3-1 win.
Elsewhere bottom club Levante’s problems worsened as they allowed Real Betis to have a ridiculous 26 attempts on goal in their 3-1 defeat at the Benito Villamarin. Recently appointed coach Javier Pereira was subsequently dismissed having failed to win a single game. There was disappointment too for high-flying Real Sociedad who lost for the first time since the opening weekend, going down 1-0 at Espanyol who continue their fine home form.
|Most Shots||KIKE GARCIA (Osasuna) & MEMPHIS DEPAY (Barcelona) – 5|
|Most Completed Passes||KOKE (Atletico Madrid) – 112|
|Most Key Passes||SERGIO CANALES (Real Betis) – 5|
|Most Completed Dribbles||ADNAN JANUZAJ (Real Sociedad) – 9|
|Most Aerials Won||KIKE GARCIA (Osasuna), ANTE BUDIMIR (Osasuna), EDER MILITAO (Real Madrid) & ESTEBAN SAVELJICH (Rayo Vallecano) – 6|
|Most Successful Tackles||AITOR RUIBAL (Real Betis) & SERGIO ESCUDERO (Granada) – 8|
|Most Interceptions||ALEX FERNANDEZ (Cadiz) – 6|
In terms of individual stats, Koke comfortably set the bar for passes completed this weekend with 112 against a Cadiz side that is generally content to let the opposition have the ball. However not one of those was judged a key pass. Thomas Lemar completed 4 key passes in that game but the weekend high in that category came from Sergio Canales with 5 for Betis against Levante.
There was also an impressive 9 dribbles completed by Adnan Januzaj for Real Sociedad at the RCDE Stadium, a figure that has rarely been topped this year in LaLiga. Standouts from the defensive stats include Alex Fernandez who intercepted the ball 6 times for Cadiz while Aitor Ruibal and Sergio Escudero both won 8 tackles.
Sorare LaLiga Fantasy Team of the Week
It was another good weekend for the Madrid clubs, as was the case on MD14 when nine of the best XI came from sides from the capital. It was just six this weekend with Real Madrid defenders David Alaba and Eder Militao both making the cut and they were joined by three Atleti players as well as Rayo Vallecano’s Isi Palazon.
Yangel Herrera features in midfield after scoring the winner for Espanyol against Real Sociedad. Meanwhile Real Betis’ hat-trick hero Juanmi features in attack, although his performance wasn’t enough to make him the player of the week.
Sorare Player of the Week: Thomas Lemar (95)
Thomas Lemar was on target again for Atletico Madrid and with a number of decisive passes too, the Frenchman only needed 73 minutes on the pitch to rack up 95 points and make him this matchday’s Sorare LaLiga player of the week.
Sorare is a Fantasy Football platform with one of the most advanced scoring matrices. All players are scored from 0-100 based on performance. You can read our latest Sorare content here to find out more about it.
