Two teams that look like they may be involved in the relegation scrap this season clash on Saturday. Mallorca made a bright start on their return to the top flight but have found wins very hard to come by of late while Getafe finally have some light at the end of the tunnel after a miserable start to the campaign.

Mallorca have gone 6 without a win since defeating Levante 1-0 back in early October. Since then it has been a story of late goals and red cards preventing them from putting more points on the board. That was largely the theme in a run of four straight draws but there was no such drama in Vallecas on Monday night.

Luis Garcia’s side were blown away by in-form Rayo Vallecano who won the game 3-1 with Abdon Prats’ late goal only really a consolation for the visitors. Mallorca aren’t the first team to have come out second best at Rayo this season but these are now slightly worrying times for the Balearic Island team. They have the third worst defensive record in LaLiga while at the other end, no Mallorca player has netted more than twice so far this season.

Getafe do finally look to have a solution to their goalscoring woes and it largely comes in the form of Enes Unal. The Turkish striker has always had plenty of talent but has struggled to offer a consistent goal threat, never managing more than 6 goals in a LaLiga season. That’s partly a product of the teams he has played for but he is suddenly starting to offer more end product with 4 goals in his last 4 league outings including some fine strikes.

He was on target again as Getafe thumped Cadiz 4-0 in their last outing, by far their most convincing performance of an otherwise miserable season so far. It’s 7 points from 4 games now for Quique Sanchez Flores’ team with just 3 goals conceded in that period. They could potentially climb out of the relegation zone with victory this weekend.
