Real Betis’ bid for a place in the knockout stage of the Europa League continues on Thursday night with what should be a very winnable home game against Ferencvaros. The Spanish side will secure qualification on the night if they win and Celtic fail to do likewise in Germany against Bayer Leverkusen.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side will certainly be eager to avoid needing a result from their trip to Glasgow in a fortnight’s time. A heavy 4-0 defeat in Leverkusen last time out in this competition was a bit of a reality check for Betis fans who were busy plotting their route to a potential Europa League Final in their city at the home of arch-rivals Sevilla.

That result came in the middle of a miserable week for Betis which saw them lose three on the bounce in all competitions whilst conceding nine and not scoring. The international break came at a good time for them you sense and they returned with a much more impressive showing at the weekend. Goals from Juanmi, Willian Jose and Nabil Fekir put them three up inside half an hour at Elche and Pellegrini would have been happy with a clean sheet too in the 3-0 victory despite the Second Half sending off of Hector Bellerin.

Betis should approach this game with confidence having won 3-1 in Budapest against Ferencvaros earlier in the group. The Hungarian side have won three on the bounce in their league to take 1st place but have somewhat predictably emerged as the weak link in this group. They’ve lost all four matches so far and have been eliminated from Europe altogether as a result with no hope of even 3rd place which would bring Conference League football in the new year.

As such, this is something of a free hit for the visitors and a chance to try and restore some pride. They’ve been found wanting defensively in most of their games with 10 conceded in their 4 matches so far and they will travel to Andalusia more in hope than expectation.

Head to Head

  • Betis won 3-1 in Hungary earlier in the group.
  • The sides hadn’t previously met.

Team News

Nabil Fekir is suspended for Betis. Guido Rodriguez is injured while defender Germán Pezzella is a doubt.

The visitors travel with no major issues although are without long-term absentee Dávid Miklós Sigér.

Possible Lineups

Real Betis vs Ferencvaros Predictions

Score Prediction: Real Betis 3-1 Ferencvaros

It was really important that Betis responded in a positive way after that damaging three game losing streak prior to the internationals. They did just that with a convincing win at Elche and that would have been a massive boost to confidence levels. Nabil Fekir is a significant absentee here but they should still have enough attacking quality on the pitch to win the game with a bit of breathing space.
