Atletico Madrid vs Osasuna Preview
Atletico Madrid will be hoping to find an extra gear as they return from the international break with a home game against Osasuna. They may need to if their title defence is going to be a successful one with Diego Simone’s side currently 5 points off the top and not looking entirely convincing.
On paper, Atleti should be stronger this season. Few can doubt Antoine Griezmann’s quality and he has shown signs of improvement in recent games while Rodrigo De Paul was also an excellent summer addition. There have been no major departures yet somehow Atleti look to have taken a step backwards rather than forwards with Diego Simeone struggling to find a way to fit all the pieces together.
Since a comfortable home victory over Barcelona, Atletico have recorded just one win in six games in all competitions. That win was a really impressive one as they brushed aside Real Betis 3-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano but their uncharacteristic defensive flaws reared their head again as they squandered a 3-1 advantage in Stoppage Time to only draw at Valencia last time out.
Osasuna meanwhile went into the international break with a 2-0 home defeat against league leaders Real Sociedad. They made a terrific start to the season but this is the final leg of a nightmare run of fixtures which has seen them face all of the current top four in successive games. They are yet to score in any of those games but did pick up a valuable point it the shape of a goalless draw at the Bernabeu.
It’s hard to know exactly what a good season would be for Osasuna from here. They already have 19 points on the board and don’t look likely to be in any kind of relegation danger so mid-table should be the minimum expectation. The jury is perhaps still out though on whether they really have enough to challenge for the European places. Much may depend on just how bold Jagoba Arrasate is willing to be and whether he can ultimately find a way to get the likes of Chimy Avila and record signing Ante Budimir into the same starting XI on a regular basis.

Atletico Madrid vs Osasuna Predictions
Score Prediction: Atletico Madrid 2-0 Osasuna
Osasuna made a flying start on their travels but they have come unstuck against stronger opponents in recent weeks and you’d expect Atletico Madrid to have the edge here with home advantage. This re-jigged Atleti is still something of a work in progress but they have enough quality to break down a stubborn Osasuna defence.
