Getafe vs Espanyol Preview
Getafe’s search for a first win of the season goes on and this is another fixture where in theory they do have at least a chance of putting three points on the board. Newly promoted Espanyol are yet to taste victory on their travels this season but do come into this game unbeaten in four matches overall.
There was late heartbreak for Getafe and their supporters on Thursday night and in the cruelest of twists of fate, it was dished out by a club legend in the shape of Jorge Molina. The veteran striker headed home a 97th minute equaliser for Granada to deny Getafe their first win of the campaign and such moments can end up defining seasons.
Already it is a long road back for Getafe. 11 winless fixtures leaves them rooted at the very foot of the table and there hasn’t been any real indicator that things are going to get better since the appointment of Quique Sanchez Flores. They completed just 59% of their passes at Granada and didn’t really deserve to win the game and that was following on from a Second Half capitulation on Monday night at home against Celta Vigo where they lost 3-0 whilst being reduced to nine men.
Espanyol will see an opportunity here for them but they are severely hampered by the suspension of top scorer Raul De Tomas. He has netted over half of Espanyol’s goals so far this season and put them ahead in midweek against Athletic. However the Basque side fought back well and created much the better chances in a game that ended 1-1 with De Tomas seeing red in Second Half Stoppage Time.
His absence should see summer signing Loren Moron get his chance to lead the line here for Espanyol. Vicente Moreno will be hoping he can provide something a bit different for a team that has taken just 3 points from their 5 away games so far this season, failing to score in 3 of them.

Getafe vs Espanyol Predictions
Score Prediction: Getafe 0-0 Espanyol
With Getafe looking so toothless in the final third and Espanyol missing by far their biggest goal threat, it’s hard to see much in the way of goalmouth action here. Getafe have rarely been terrible but they just don’t offer enough going forwards to suggest they are going to get out of this mess or win games such as this. A scoreless draw wouldn’t be a huge surprise here.
