Cadiz vs Mallorca Preview

Cadiz stadium

Cadiz and Mallorca are back in action following late drama in both of their games in midweek. The hosts head into the weekend inside the relegation zone and could do with a positive result here to drag themselves back towards the likes of Mallorca in the upper reaches of the bottom half.

It was classic Cadiz on Tuesday night at the Ceramica. They had just 22% of the ball against Villarreal but were a threat on the break throughout with Anthony Lozano having a night to remember as he fired in a hat-trick, the first Cadiz player to do so in the Primera in the 35 years. Cadiz appeared to be on their way to a fantastic victory but conceded 80th and 95th minute goals to return home with only a point.

It’s not as though they can really rely on home comforts to get them out of this position. They’ve taken just 3 points from 6 home league games so far this season with the likes of Alaves and Osasuna having already left the Nuevo Mirandilla with three points. It’s just 1 win from their last 10 at home overall but they will see this fixture as a chance to break their home duck.

Mallorca will be eyeing it up too though as they bid to continue what has been a pretty impressive start to the campaign. It could have been better were it not for late goals which have plagued them in recent weeks. They conceded the only goal of their game a fortnight ago against Real Sociedad in the 90th minute and then spurned a 2-0 advantage in Stoppage Time to only draw against Valencia. For a moment it looked like history was going to repeat itself in midweek when Lucas Ocampos appeared to score a late winner for Sevilla in Palma de Mallorca but this time they were saved by VAR.

Overall there was certainly plenty that would have impressed Luis Garcia in that performance though as Mallorca went toe to toe with one of the strongest sides in the league and created marginally the better openings. After this game, they face Elche, Rayo and Getafe in succession so this really is an important period in the season for Mallorca and a good chance for them to put real distance between themselves and the bottom three.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 3 Mallorca Wins, 3 Draws.

  • They haven’t met in the top flight since the 2005/06 season when Mallorca won both fixtures.
  • The most recent clash was a 1-1 draw in Cadiz in the Segunda in January 2019 when the hosts were reduced to 9 men.

Cadiz vs Mallorca Predictions

Score Prediction: Cadiz 1-1 Mallorca

This is a really tough game to call with not a lot to separate the sides. Both teams are missing some players and come into this on the back of a busy week so we may see a bit of tiredness creeping in and it may not be the highest quality game of the weekend. With Cadiz still winless at home, a draw looks the most likely outcome.
