Matchday 10 delivered the first Clasico of the season as Real Madrid won at Camp Nou with an effective counter-attacking display. That was by no means the game of the weekend though with a number of thrilling contests, particularly on Sunday which produced no less than 20 goals across the 4 games. Read on for our LaLiga matchday 10 review featuring all the results, xG data, stats and team of the week.

There were talking points and plenty of chances in almost every game this weekend and we ended up with some surprising numbers. One team that immediately jumps out is Cadiz. They had a season low 2 shots on goal and created only 0.16 xG in their previous home game, a draw against Valencia on matchday 8. This weekend they had the most shots of any team in LaLiga with 23 but still couldn’t score in their defeat to Alaves.
Valencia’s evolution into something a bit different to what we might have expected under Jose Bordalas continued. They set the highest possession figures this weekend, although that was largely due to Mallorca’s approach and also the fact that the visitors were reduced to 9 men by the end of the game.
We saw the highest scoring LaLiga game in over two years as Sevilla beat Levante 5-3 at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan, atlhough bizarrely it was Alaves’ 2-0 win in Cadiz which produced the most xG this weekend.
We also had the biggest attendance of the season so far for the Clasico, the largest in Spain since before the pandemic. However it was also the lowest Camp Nou Clasico crowd since 1988, with more than 10,000 empty seats for the showpiece game, a sign of the times in Barcelona.
Individual Stats
Most Shots | JOSELU (Alaves) & RAUL DE TOMAS (Espanyol) – 6 |
Most Completed Passes | FRAN BELTRAN (Celta Vigo) – 82 |
Most Key Passes | JESUS NAVAS (Sevilla) – 6 |
Most Completed Dribbles | ALBERTO PEREA (Cadiz) – 8 |
Most Aerials Won | JOSELU (Alaves) – 14 |
Most Successful Tackles | GUIDO RODRIGUEZ (Real Betis) – 6 |
Most Interceptions | MATHIAS OLIVERA (Getafe) – 7 |
In terms of individual performances, it’s no surprise to see Joselu feature again. He consistently ends gameweeks with significantly more aerial challenges won than any other player in LaLiga but he was more than just a targetman this weekend. The Alaves striker scored both goals in his team’s 2-0 victory over Cadiz and also had 6 attempts on goal, the joint most in LaLiga this weekend along with Espanyol’s Raul De Tomas.
Fran Beltran’s performance for Celta Vigo is also worth a mention. Slotting in for the injured Renato Tapia, he has sometimes struggled to fill the Peruvian’s boots but for once Celta did not miss Tapia as Beltran completed a matchday 10 high of 82 passes in Celta’s 3-0 victory at the Coliseum.
Sorare LaLiga Fantasy Team of the Week

It was a high scoring weekend in terms of goals in LaLiga and also in terms of fantasy points. We had to leave out a host of attacking players this weekend who would have easily made the XI on other matchdays. Atleti striker Luis Suarez missed out despite a score of 87 with Joselu and Raul De Tomas getting the nod up front.
No players from El Clasico made the best XI with some surprise inclusions including Sevilla’s Oliver Torres who scored a screamer after getting a rare start in his team’s goalfest with Levante. There was also a first Best XI appearance for Athletic’s 20 year old midfielder Unai Vencedor who is enjoying something of a breakthrough season at San Mames.
Sorare Player of the Week: Jesus Navas (97)
It was a close call for player of the week with several 95+ scores but Sevilla’s veteran right-back Jesus Navas edged it. The 35 year old continues to excel on the right flank for the Andalusian club and completed the most key passes this weekend in LaLiga, one of which led to a goal.
