Real Betis vs Valencia Preview
Real Betis play host to Valencia in one of the standout fixtures this midweek in LaLiga. It’ll be a contrast of styles as Manuel Pellegrini and Jose Bordalas clash but the hosts will certainly be the favourites after an impressive start to the season.
It has been a terrific 2021 overall for Real Betis and their supporters. They are not only playing an entertaining brand of football and scoring plenty of goals, but getting results too on a consistent basis. We’ve seen that for brief periods over the past couple of decades from the Seville club but it rarely turns into sustained success and that will be the objective for Pellegrini now with back-to-back top six finishes not looking impossible.
Much may depend on how much of a distraction their cup commitments become but so far their league form hasn’t suffered despite their European participation. Betis come into this having won 5 of their last 7 games, including an entertaining 3-2 win at home to Rayo Vallecano at the weekend with Willian Jose’s late penalty sealing victory after the Madrid side had fought back from 2-0 down to level the game.
There was also plenty of drama in Valencia’s weekend outing. They looked certain to be on course for a surprise home defeat against Mallorca as they trailed 2-0 heading into Stoppage Time. However Los Che found late salvation with Goncalo Guedes scoring in the 93rd minute before Jose Gaya fired in a 98th minute leveller as their opponents capitulated to some extent.
While that may have briefly felt like a win, Bordalas would still have been left reflecting on a 6th straight match without victory following on from a bright start to the season. They’ve collected just 3 points during that period and there’s a danger this run could go on with this the first fixture in a tough sequence which sees them play four straight games against teams that qualified for Europe last season.

Real Betis vs Valencia Predictions
Score Prediction: Real Betis 2-1 Valencia
Valencia’s bright start to the season feels like something of a distant memory now. While there is still potential in this team to improve, they look short on quality in comparison to a Real Betis side that has shown itself to have genuine depth to their ranks. They can afford to rotate in a few positions without really weakening the side and that could be significant in a midweek fixture such as this.
