Getafe vs Celta Vigo Preview

Getafe match action

Getafe and Celta Vigo face off in the Monday night game in LaLiga. Neither side has been impressive this season but both will see this as an opportunity to try and turn a corner with a morale boosting victory.

Getafe badly need that. They’ve just 2 points from 9 games so far, although those points have come from their last two games. The most recent was their first back under the guidance of Quique Sanchez Flores. The 56 year old did seem to get something of a reaction with Getafe putting in a stronger showing in their 0-0 draw at Levante than we’ve seen from them for much of this season.

The new man though will struggle to find any solutions to the fundamental problem they have which is a serious lack of goal threat. The more attacking players they brought in over the summer have failed to fire yet and they are likely to go with Sandro Ramirez as their lone striker again here. Without any midfield players who offer a consistent goal threat, it’s just always so hard to know where their goals will come from and a return of just 3 league goals from 9 games so far this season highlights that.

Celta Vigo in contrast shouldn’t be a team that struggles in that regard. If anything, their problem in recent years has been that they’ve had too much attacking talent to cram into one team but Chacho Coudet found a successful way to do that last season. However they’ve only managed to net 7 times themselves this season, the joint lowest tally outside of the bottom three.

Talisman Iago Aspas has been somewhat short of his best with Santi Mina the more impressive of Celta’s forwards so far this term. There is still potential in this side but somehow things aren’t quite working right now and Celta come into this game following back-to-back 1-0 defeats against Elche and Sevilla.

Head to Head

  • They took 4 points off Getafe last season, winning 1-0 in Vigo and drawing this fixture 1-1.
  • Celta haven’t won on any of their last 4 visits to the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, drawing 2 and losing 2.

Getafe vs Celta Vigo Predictions

Score Prediction: Getafe 1-0 Celta Vigo

There’s something unconvincing about Celta Vigo at the moment and you always fear for them a little when Renato Tapia is absent, as is the case here. Quique Sanchez Flores has a really difficult job on his hands with Getafe but he did appear to get a reaction last weekend and they may just be able to build on that with a scrappy first victory of the season here.
