Sevilla vs Levante Preview
Sevilla and Levante face off in the early game on Sunday. The visitors are still looking for their first win of the season and they will do well to get it here at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan which is usually such a fortress for Sevilla.
Julen Lopetegui’s side have only lost 1 of their 11 matches so far this season in all competitions and are riding high in 3rd in LaLiga. Expectations are higher though following two strong seasons and it’s probably fair to say that not everybody has been convinced by Sevilla so far this season.
They’ve only managed to score 13 goals in total which isn’t a fantastic return and they will need to improve on those kinds of numbers if they are going to realise ambitions of competing with the very best teams across the course of the season. Defensively though, they’ve been excellent again conceding just 3 goals so far in LaLiga, the best record in the Spanish top flight and they were solid again in midweek in their latest Champions League outing – a 0-0 draw in France against Lille.
Levante will need to work hard for their openings and they will need to take any clear chances that do come their way if they are going to get that elusive first victory. They are under new management after Paco Lopez was replaced by Javier Pereira but there was no early joy for the new Levante boss as his side were left frustrated by bottom club Getafe with a 0-0 draw at the Ciutat de Valencia.
It wasn’t a particularly convincing start but Pereira does have some good players to work with but restoring confidence will be tough in a side that has now gone 17 league games without victory. A few injury issues make life even more complicated for the new boss and he could do with senior players such as Roberto Soldado and Jose Luis Morales stepping up and trying to lead this team away from trouble.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 5 Sevilla Wins, 1 Draw.
- Sevilla have won their last 4 competitive home games against Levante.
- They won both meetings last season by 1-0 margins.
- Levante haven’t beaten Sevilla since a 2-1 home win in 2018.
Youssef En-Nesyri is expected to be missing again with a hamstring injury. Karim Rekik is also a doubt.
Roger Marti, Sergio Postigo and Jose Campana are significant injury absentees for the away team.
Predicted Sevilla Starting Lineup:
Bono – Acuna, Carlos, Kounde, Navas – Jordan, Fernando – Ocampos, Gomez, Lamela – Mir (4-2-3-1)
Predicted Levante Starting Lineup:
Fernandez – Clerc, Mustafi, Vezo, Miramon – Martinez, Melero, Radoja – Morales, Soldado, De Frutos (4-3-3)
Sevilla vs Levante Predictions
Score Prediction: Sevilla 2-0 Levante
It’s hard to see any outcome other than a home win here. Levante didn’t really show many signs of experiencing a fresh bounce following the change in management and they will struggle to get anything against a solid Sevilla outfit, even if the hosts do opt for some light rotation.
