Alaves vs Real Betis Preview
Alaves and Real Betis meet in the first of two Monday night games in Spain. It’s the start of a busy period for the visitors who have two games per week until the next international break thanks to their European commitments and a full midweek fixture list.
This is arguably a bigger game for Alaves though. While the pressure was eased on boss Javi Calleja by a shock 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid in their last home game, they still went into the international break on the back of a defeat in Bilbao and with 6 defeats from 7 league games so far this season. The other two teams in the bottom three heading into this matchday have both already sacked coaches and Calleja will be back under scrutiny if Alaves fail to get a result here.
They have been a bit better defensively in recent matches, conceding just twice in three league games heading into this. However they have switched to a very cautious 5-4-1 which doesn’t make for great viewing from a neutral perspective. It will certainly make it tough for Betis’ more creative players to break them down but it’s hard to not be left questioning just where Alaves are going to get their goals from if they continue to play in this manner with set-pieces perhaps their best chance.
Betis are at the other end of the scale when it comes to entertainment. They were scoring goals and playing well in September, winning 5 out of 6 in all competitions before slipping to a 2-0 defeat at Villarreal in their last match. Perhaps a little bit of fatigue was creeping in by that point but it was more likely just down to them being up against another strong side who had the edge on the day.
Betis will be hoping to push for European qualification again this season and these are the kinds of games they’ll need to be winning if they are going to make the top six again. With Sergio Canales having recovered from his latest injury struggles, they should be close to full strength here and they’ll be hoping to leave Vitoria with all the points.

Alaves vs Real Betis Predictions
Score Prediction: Alaves 0-1 Real Betis
Unless we see a change in system from the hosts, it’s hard to see there being too many goals in this one and Betis may have to be patient and play smart. However they have considerably more attacking quality than their opponents and one or two players who could produce a moment of magic which may just settle this.
