Villarreal vs Real Betis Preview
Two teams with European ambitions this season meet at the Estadio Ceramica on Sunday as Villarreal entertain Real Betis. The clubs enjoyed mixed fortunes in Europe in midweek but overall there are reasons for both sets of supporters to be highly optimistic about the season ahead.
Villarreal were terrific in their Champions League match against Manchester United and could quite easily have left Old Trafford with a win had they finished off their chances. However in the end they were hit by a late Cristiano Ronaldo sucker punch which leaves their hopes of UCL progress looking quite slim in truth.
5 draws from their opening 6 league games also hardly represents the perfect start but they have shown an ability to mix it with the stronger teams and when everyone is fit, they could be a real force. Defensively they look pretty solid with just 3 goals conceded in the league so far while at the other end a forward-line consisting of the likes of Arnaut Danjuma and Gerard Moreno is pretty tasty, although the latter remains an injury absentee here.
They are up against a Real Betis side that is flying right now with 5 wins from 6 games since the international break in all competitions. They’ve scored 16 times in the process, including 3 in their latest Europa League victory away to Ferencvaros in midweek. What’s really encouraging for them moving forwards, is that they’ve managed to keep rotating and keep winning, which is a very handy habit to have and not one that comes naturally to many teams entering European football again after a few seasons away.
The only negative for Real Betis is that Sergio Canales has picked up an injury and will be missing again here. He is key but as they showed on Thursday night, they can win and play well without him, although the level of opposition here will be a significant step up on that match.

Gerard Moreno is the only definite injury absentee for the home team.

Villarreal vs Real Betis Predictions
Score Prediction: Villarreal 2-2 Real Betis
Villarreal will be the favourites with home advantage but their tendency to keep drawing games raises doubts about whether they will seriously be able to get the job done. Betis are playing some great football at the moment and the results are coming and they look capable of getting another one here.
