Granada vs Sevilla Preview
The final game in LaLiga before the second international break of the season is an Andalusian derby between Granada and Sevilla. It’s another high pressure game for Robert Moreno whose position is under real scrutiny at Los Carmenes after a slow start to the campaign.
Not only have results been poor on the pitch, but the fans don’t appear to have warmed to him at all either. Replacing Diego Martinez was always going to be a tall order and for Moreno this feels like a “make or break” kind of game. A victory over a side as good as Sevilla in a derby would not only buy him time with the board but would potentially win over the supporters who are dubious about him, or at least make them more open to giving him a chance.
There is no getting away from the fact though, that so far neither results or performances have been positive. They did have chances in Vigo last week to potentially record that elusive first win of the season but they ultimately conceded late on as Denis Suarez fired in a 94th minute winner for Celta to add to the gloom for Granada who have just 3 points from 7 games coming into this.
Sevilla meanwhile remain unbeaten so far this season in all competitions with four wins and four draws. Two of those draws have come in the Champions League and they needed an 87th minute penalty to rescue a point from their trip to Wolfsburg in midweek. They have plenty of work to do in that competition which will be a big focus for them once we return from the international break.
In terms of LaLiga, you wonder just what Sevilla think they can achieve this season. The LaLiga salary limit publication this week showed them to now have the second highest maximum budget in the league after Real Madrid. That’s not necessarily the same as having the second highest wage bill but it is an indication that this club is now in a position where competing with the so-called big three over the course of a season is a realistic goal and they’ve every reason to fancy their chances of finishing higher than 4th this term.
Head to Head
- Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 2 Granada Wins, 4 Sevilla Wins.
- Both meetings last term produced home wins.
- Sevilla have lost on 3 of their last 4 trips to Los Carmenes.
- The exception was a 1-0 win in August 2019.
Yan Eteki is out for Granada who also have a doubt over Maxime Gonalons.
Thomas Delaney is banned for the visitors. Youssef En-Nesyri is out injured so Rafa Mir should lead the line again.
Predicted Granada Starting Lineup:
Maximiano – Neva, Sanchez, Duarte, Quini – Monchu, Montoro, Milla – Machis, Suarez, Puertas (4-3-3)
Predicted Sevilla Starting Lineup:
Bono – Acuna, Kounde, Carlos, Navas – Fernando, Jordan, Rakitic – Ocampos, Mir, Lamela (4-3-3)
Granada vs Sevilla Predictions
Score Prediction: Granada 0-2 Sevilla
It’s hard to look past the visitors in this one. Granada need a result badly but there’s not much sign they are going to get one against a strong Sevilla side that has started the season well and has had a sufficient rest following their European game to be relatively fresh here and go again.
