Getafe vs Real Sociedad Preview

Getafe match action

Getafe boss Michel’s search for a first point goes on as they welcome Real Sociedad to the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez this weekend. Other presidents in Spain may have dispensed with their coach by now but Getafe’s Angel Torres has shown patience but that must be wearing incredibly thin after seven games and seven defeats.

Michel could have few complaints if he lost job following another loss here and privately at least, he must realise this is surely last chance saloon. Getafe’s performances have been something of a mixed bag and he may feel as though they’ve warranted at least some points. However they were distinctly second best at Real Betis last weekend, falling to a 2-0 defeat and in truth it could have been more against a rampant Betis side.

One thing that may be working in Michel’s favour is that the board perhaps realise they have had it tough in terms of fixtures so far. They will have played 5 of last season’s top 6 after this game but defeats against the likes of Elche and Rayo Vallecano are still hard to ignore and they’ve tended to save their worst performances for the more winnable fixtures.

Getafe’s chances in this match are improved by the fact that Real Sociedad not only played on Thursday night but are currently dealing with the biggest injury crisis in LaLiga. They’ve coped remarkably well considering that to still be flying high in 2nd place in the league heading into this weekend but in truth the international break is much needed as far as they are concerned.

Last weekend against Elche, they had to start with B team players Julen Lobete and Beñat Turrientes and their bench was almost entirely made up of players from the B squad. They do at least have the only B team currently in the Segunda Division but it’s still far from ideal to be stretched to such limits, particularly given their European commitments. They drew 1-1 against Monaco in the Europa League on Thursday night, another decent result in the circumstances and Imanol will be hoping his side can find one last push here before getting a well earned rest over the international break.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 3 Getafe Wins, 3 Real Sociedad Wins.
  • La Real did the double over Getafe last season.
  • Getafe have won 3 of the last 4 meetings on this ground overall though.
  • 4 of the last 5 meetings have produced exactly 3 goals.

Team News

Jakub Jankto is out injured for the hosts but Mauro Arambarri is nearing fitness again and may feature here.

The likes of Nacho Monreal, David Silva and Diego Rico are still out for the visitors while this game may come too soon for Alexander Isak and Asier Illarramendi too.

Predicted Getafe Starting Lineup:

Soria – Olivera, Cuenca, Mitrovic, Djene, Iglesias – Alena, Florentino, Maksimovic – Unal, Sandro (5-3-2)

Predicted Real Sociedad Starting Lineup:

Remiro – Munoz, Le Normand, Elustondo, Gorosabel – Navarro, Merino, Guevara – Oyarzabal, Sorloth, Portu (4-3-3)

Getafe vs Real Sociedad Predictions

Score Prediction: Getafe 1-0 Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad’s injury crisis is a fraction better than it was last weekend but they are still missing a host of players which leaves some players having to start again when they really need a break. You fear this may be one game too many for them and that presents Getafe with a chance to pick up their first points of the season.
