Two teams who will be happy with how their seasons have started meet in Pamplona on Saturday. Osasuna have home advantage but they’ll be wary of a red hot Rayo Vallecano side that has won three on the spin heading into the match.

Osasuna came into the season with slightly higher aspirations than their opponents and it’s not a great surprise to see them currently in the upper reaches of mid-table. They’ve not been consistent but away wins over Cadiz, Alaves and Mallorca have contributed to the bulk of their points tally. They struck late again last weekend with Javi Martinez netting an 88th minute winner to seal a 3-2 win in Palma while they claimed an even later victory by the same margin in Cadiz.

Curiously though, Osasuna’s home form has been the problem. They’ve taken just 2 points from 4 outings on home soil this term with Real Betis and Valencia both leaving with maximum points in recent weeks. They will be hoping that a return to 100% capacities starting from this weekend will prove a turning point at what is a much improved stadium that was already one of the loudest in Spain.

Rayo Vallecano though will travel believing they can add further home woe on this Osasuna team. The Madrid club are riding the crest of a wave right now with three straight wins, all games that saw big name signing Radamel Falcao score. The Colombian has only spent a grand total of 97 minutes on the pitch so far in Rayo colours so it truly is a remarkable start and he looks in the kind of shape which could see him continue to be a major weapon for Rayo throughout the season.

Inevitably there will be a dip in form for a team almost everybody predicted would get relegated. However there is a lot to like about them with the likes of Oscar Trejo, Alvaro Garcia and Isi Palazon all impressing on the big stage while their defence has been well marshalled by Alejandro Catena. A fourth win on the spin would send them as high as 2nd in LaLiga and they’d be well on their way to the kind of points tally which would keep them in the league.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 3 Osasuna Wins, 1 Rayo Win, 2 Draws.
  • The sides haven’t met since the 2017/18 Segunda Division.
  • Osasuna won 3-0 in Vallecas that season before a 1-1 draw at El Sadar.
  • Rayo are without a win on 4 league visits to this ground.

Team News

Kike Barja, Ante Budimir and Javier Ontiveros are doubts for the home team.

Martín Merquelanz and Esteban Saveljich are carrying injuries for the visitors but the latter may still feature.

Predicted Osasuna Starting Lineup:

Herrera – Cote, U. Garcia, D. Garcia, Vidal – Torro – I. Perez, Brasanac, Moncayola, R. Torres – Kike (4-1-4-1)

Predicted Rayo Vallecano Starting Lineup:

Dimitrievski – Garcia, Catena, Maras, Balliu – Ciss, Comesana – A. Garcia, Trejo, Palazon – Falcao (4-2-3-1)

Osasuna vs Rayo Vallecano Predictions

Score Prediction: Osasuna 2-2 Rayo Vallecano

Rayo will come to play positive football and look to win the game which bodes well for this match being very watchable. Osasuna games have also produced quite a lot of goals in recent weeks and both teams have dangermen to look out for in the final third. It could be a good one and a score draw looks a likely outcome with Osasuna struggling for results on home soil right now.
