Real Betis are in action at the Benito Villamarin on Sunday evening in what may be last chance saloon for Getafe boss Michel. After six games and six defeats, the pressure is already firmly on him to start delivering results but it won’t be easy against a strong Real Betis side.

It’s hard to judge whether Betis overachieved last season or whether everyone is still underestimating them. Their record in the 2021 calendar year is very impressive indeed with just 3 defeats inside 90 minutes in 33 games. All of those losses came by single goal margins against teams who ended in last season’s top four so that puts into some perspective the kind of challenge Getafe are faced with here.

It does though remain to be seen just how well Betis can cope with the extra demands of European football. The early signs are positive with 3 wins from their last 4 games in all competitions including an impressive 3-1 win at Osasuna in midweek. That made it 11 goals in 4 games too with things clearly clicking in the final third right now for the Seville club but the real test may be in a couple of months when winters set in and the excesses of too much football can start to have a greater impact on clubs.

Getafe have no such concerns but they’d probably welcome a cup game or something just to give them a chance to record a morale boosting victory. They looked like they might be on their way to that in midweek when they led local rivals Atletico Madrid 1-0 with 12 minutes to go. However Luis Suarez’s late brace was like a dagger to the hearts of the Getafe players and fans alike, condemning them to a 6th straight defeat to start the new season.

Teams have stayed up from such poor positions but it’s clear Getafe have a long, hard season ahead of them. Whether or not Michel is the right man to lead them will be a matter for the board but they must already be running low on patience. It’s hard to really fancy them in this game but they ought to get opportunities against a Betis defence which is by no means faultless and they will need to be more clinical than they have been so far this term.

Real Betis vs Getafe Predictions

Score Prediction: Real Betis 2-1 Getafe

This feels like a match Real Betis ought to be winning. They are strong at the Benito Villamarin and with Nabil Fekir on top of his game, they’ve been creating so many chances in recent games that you have to fancy them to have too much for a Getafe side that looks shot of any confidence and short on quality in key areas of the pitch.
