Granada vs Real Sociedad Preview

Granada in action in LaLiga

The Thursday night action in LaLiga includes a trip to Los Carmenes for Real Sociedad. Granada are still searching for that elusive first victory under new boss Robert Moreno but they should take some confidence into this game having taken a point from their trip to Camp Nou on Monday night.

It was so nearly much more than that. Ahead in the 2nd minute through Domingos Duarte, they held on for the entire game and forced Barcelona to adopt a more direct approach in the final stages. Finally Granada’s resistance was broken with Ronald Araujo heading home in the 90th minute to salvage a point for the Catalans and deny Granada a second win at Camp Nou in 2021.

Granada haven’t actually won a league game since a surprise victory in Barcelona in April. Things tailed off towards the end of last season under Diego Martinez and it isn’t a huge surprise to see his successor enduring a tough time of it. He’s still trying to stamp his identity on a team that has overachieved in the past two seasons and a tricky run of fixtures is not going to make that easy at all, so you do still have to worry for the former Spain boss despite that positive result earlier in the week.

As for Real Sociedad, there are no such concerns and they look well set to have another strong season. Imanol’s side have taken 10 points from their opening 5 league games which marks a very solid return given they’ve already faced two of last season’s top four. They hosted Sevilla at the weekend and ended up with a point in a goalless draw with Mikel Oyarzabal missing a penalty for the Basques in the 1st Half.

Real Sociedad have a big Europa League clash with Monaco next Thursday so Imanol will be conscious of the need to rotate his squad and keep players fresh. There wasn’t much sign of that at the weekend and you wonder if we might just see a few more changes here although numerous injury problems are hampering La Real right now which is a slight concern given the heavy schedule.

Head to Head

Yan Eteki and Neyder Lozano are the main absentees for the home team.

Alexander Isak joins a lengthy Real Sociedad injury list. The likes of David Silva, Diego Rico and Nacho Monreal are also out.

Predicted Granada Starting Lineup:

Maximiano – Quini, Sanchez, Duarte, Arias – Milla, Montoro, Gonalons – Bacca, Suarez, Rochina (4-3-3)

Predicted Real Sociedad Starting Lineup:

Remiro – Zaldua, Le Normand, Elustondo, Munoz – Zubimendi, Merino, Guevara – Oyarzabal, Sorloth, Januzaj (4-3-3)

Granada vs Real Sociedad Predictions

Score Prediction: Granada 1-2 Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad do have some notable absentees but they do have a bit more depth in attacking areas this season which makes that less of a concern than it might have been. Granada got a good result on Monday but it was a backs to the wall job and they’ve not shown a great deal of quality yet this season and the new players are still in the process of settling in. The visitors may just have the edge here but it’s likely to be close.
