Villarreal vs Elche Preview
Villarreal entertain Elche in a clash between two teams from the Valencian region of Spain. The hosts are desperate to end this sequence which has seen them draw every game so far this season and in theory, a home game against Elche does offer them a good chance to do just that.
A run of six straight draws in all competitions will be extra frustrating for Unai Emery and his team given that drawing too many games was exactly what let them down last season. It was the very problem they were looking to fix but it does rather add fuel to the fire when it comes to the theory that Emery is a good cup manager but incapable of putting together a really strong league season.
In fairness to Villarreal and Emery, they have had a few injury problems which have made getting off to a flying start tough. Dani Parejo has been limited to just 34 minutes of league action so far and any team would struggle a bit without their main creator. There has been a positive start from summer signing Arnaut Danjuma though and he does look like a player who could help ease the goalscoring burden that has lied on Gerard Moreno who has also had injury problems at the start of this season and looks set to miss this game.
As for Elche, things are looking more promising than they might have midway through the summer. The club have got some good players through the door and have looked really assured defensively so far this term. They’ve conceded just three goals in five games, really good going when you consider they’ve already played two of last season’s top four.
The defensive foundations appear to be there but the big question is going to be whether or not they can find a bit more in the final third than they managed last season. Lucas Perez is already providing a greater goal threat and he was on the mark as Elche drew 1-1 at home to Levante at the weekend. That match also saw Javier Pastore make his debut off the bench and it’ll be intriguing to see how much of a difference he can make in midfield once he gets fully fit.

Villarreal vs Elche Predictions
Score Prediction: Villarreal 1-0 Elche
Elche are capable of turning this into another frustrating evening for Villarreal but you just sense with Dani Parejo on the pitch, they may have that extra degree of creativity which could see them unlock the visiting defence at least once, which may be all they need to win this one.
