The Friday night game this week in LaLiga comes from Balaidos and it’s a game that both Celta Vigo and Cadiz will be desperate to win. Neither side has put three points on the board so far this season and there is certainly pressure on the hosts to do that at the fifth time of asking here.

Celta had a real rollercoaster evening on Sunday night in Madrid. They led 2-1 at the break on Real Madrid’s return to the Bernabeu with Santi Mina and Franco Cervi twice putting the Galicians in front. The latter was making his first start since a summer move from Benfica and he appeared to help spark Celta into life. However they lost Renato Tapia at Half-Time with the Peruvian tired following a busy international break in South America. Without Tapia, Celta were much easier to break through in the Second Half and Los Blancos came roaring back to win 5-2.

That dependence on Tapia to hold things together continues to be a concern and you wonder whether Coudet may ultimately decide he needs to tweak this system and bring in an extra holding midfielder. He might not need one in this fixture but he will expect his big players to show up and improve on a record which has seen Celta only collect one point from four games so far.

The expectations at Cadiz are considerably lower but there will also be concern in their camp at a start which has seen them only collect two points from four games. They conceded two Stoppage Time goals to see three points turn into none just before the international break against Osasuna. That would have been a really bitter pill to swallow and they were beaten again at home last weekend by Real Sociedad.

While we know that Cadiz are a team that is happy to let the opposition have the ball, some of the stats from that game were particularly striking. Cadiz only completed 100 passes in the whole match, which was less than Real Sociedad defender Robin Le Normand. They only managed to test the opposing keeper once in a 2-0 defeat that was compounded by a late sending off for Juan Cala which will see him ruled out of this game.

Head to Head

  • Last 6 Competitive Meetings: 4 Celta Wins, 1 Cadiz Win, 1 Draw.
  • The last meeting was a 0-0 draw in Cadiz in April.
  • Celta Vigo were 4-0 winners in this fixture last season.
  • That was the final game in a four match winning streak against Cadiz overall.

Team News

Franco Cervi is a doubt for the hosts but should keep Nolito out if deemed fit. Renato Tapia is not injured and was withdrawn last weekend due to fatigue so he should start here.

Cadiz are missing Juan Cala due to suspension. José Mari, Garrido and Perea are injured.

Predicted Celta Starting Lineup:

Dituro – Galan, Araujo, Murillo, Mallo – Tapia – Cervi, Suarez, Mendez – Mina, Aspas (4-1-3-2)

Predicted Cadiz Starting Lineup:

Ledesma – Espino, Haroyan, Fali, Iza – Alex, Alarcon, Jonsson, Salvi – Negredo, Sobrino (4-4-2)

Celta Vigo vs Cadiz Predictions

Score Prediction: Celta 3-1 Cadiz

Celta Vigo have too much quality in their ranks for this winless streak to go on much longer and you sense this could be the game where things click into place for the Galicians. Cadiz will be low on confidence and they may struggle to cope with a Celta attack that will be hungry to put things right and truly get their season up and running.
