Osasuna vs Celta Vigo Preview
LaLiga matchday 2 will be complete by around midnight in Pamplona on Monday. As they were on the opening weekend, Osasuna are at home, this time against a Celta Vigo side that is targeting their first points of the season. It has the makings of a decent game between two clubs hoping to kick on after strong 2020/21 campaigns.
Osasuna have finished 10th and 11th in their two top flight seasons since returning to the Primera in 2019. On paper, this is perhaps their strongest squad which may even make them dark horses for a push towards the lower European places. Victory over a Celta Vigo side that ought to be in the mix for the top six or seven, would certainly be a real statement of intent.
Newly promoted Espanyol visited El Sadar on the opening weekend and on a hot night in Pamplona, there was little between the teams as the game wound down into a 0-0 draw. Osasuna only managed to test the visiting keeper on one occasion which would have frustrated Jagoba Arrasate and he may look to tweak his side here with some fresh attacking options this term, including the fit again Chimy Avila, used off the bench last weekend.
This ought to be a more open contest against a Celta Vigo side that tends to be quite positive. They were involved in a really competitive opening fixture against champions Atletico Madrid, but ultimately ended up on the wrong end of 2-1 scoreline with talisman Iago Aspas surprisingly missing a glorious chance which would have surely earned the Galician side at least a point.
Celta’s first team from holding midfielder Renato Tapia forwards, is basically what it was last term and they always carry a goal threat. At the back, there have been some alterations and that’s the area of the pitch that the Chacho Coudet will be looking for improvements this season. Summer signing Javi Galan was an opening weekend debutant and looks an excellent fit for Celta’s style of play as an attack-minded left-back.

Osasuna vs Celta Vigo Predictions
Score Prediction: Osasuna 2-2 Celta Vigo
While quite different from a stylistic perspective, there’s not a great deal to choose between Osasuna and Celta Vigo. The Galicians have a bit more in terms of creativity perhaps but it’s rarely easy at El Sadar and while not yet full, Osasuna ought to get some kind of home advantage here which may help them secure a point in what could be quite a watchable game to round off matchday 2.
