With LaLiga and its clubs keen to expand their global appeal, there has been a real surge in the production of Spanish football documentaries and content in recent years.

Six Dreams

This documentary takes you behind the scenes into the daily lives of those working in LaLiga. It follows six people during the 2017/18 Spanish football season – three players (Andrés Guardado, Saúl Ñíguez and Iñaki Williams) plus then Sevilla coach Eduardo Berrizo, Girona’s sporting director Quique Carcel and Eibar president Amaia Gorostiza. Over six episodes of roughly one hour, it charts the highs and lows of the season for each.

El Corazón de Sergio Ramos

An eight-part series, all about the Spain and Real Madrid captain delving into his life on and off the pitch. Somewhat unfortunately filmed during Real Madrid’s disastrous 2018/19 season, the documentary sheds some light on Ramos the man without really providing too many answers as to what went wrong as Los Blancos’ season came crashing down with three home defeats in the space of a week.

Take the Ball, Pass the Ball

Featuring the thoughts of Leo Messi, Xavi Hernández, Andrés Iniesta and Gerard Piqué, this 1 hour 50 minute film tells the story of Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering Barcelona team – rated by many as the best ever club side.

G’olé!: The Official film of 1982 FIFA World Cup Spain

Step back in time to the early 1980’s, the last time Spain hosted a major tournament. 14 different cities across the country played host to World Cup matches in an extended format which featured two group stages. It would prove to be a disappointing summer for La Roja as a side largely filled with Basque talent won just one of their five matches.

Luis el sabio del exito

Focused around Luis Aragonés, this two-part documentary tells the story of Spain’s Euro 2008 triumph featuring previously unpublished footage as La Roja ended their trophy drought and kicked off the most successful era in the history of any international side.

Barça Dreams

Featuring the thoughts of former coaches Johan Cruijff, Louis van Gaal, Terry Venables and Pep Guardiola among many others, this 2015 documentary explores the history and philosophies of the Catalan giants.

Le K Benzema

A lengthy two-hour long documentary which sees Karim Benzema open up about his Real Madrid career and some of the controversies that resulted in a lengthy absence from the French national team. Released in 2017.

Copa 90 Derby Days

The excellent Copa 90 Derby Days series takes you deep into the heart of some of the fiercest local rivalries in world football. There are currently seven Spanish rivalries featured with local dust-ups from Galicia to Mallorca. With each episode roughly twenty minutes long, there’s plenty to get stuck into if you’ve got a couple of hours to fill. Spain 2010 | The story of La Roja’s era-defining triumph

Narrated by Guillem Balagué, this FourFourTwo Documentary reminisces on La Roja’s golden summer in South Africa and the challenges that Vicente del Bosque and his side had to overcome to bring the World Cup trophy to Spain for the first time.

This Is Athletic Club Bilbao – Basque Identity vs Modern Football

A short feature explaining what makes Athletic Club special and why they continue to stick to their famous ‘Basque only’ policy despite the growing challenges of competing with the elite Spanish clubs and their array of global superstars.

Football’s Greatest – Johan Cruyff – Documentary

Centred around an interview with the Dutch legend, this documentary offers greater insight into the brilliant football mind of Cruyff, focusing on his times as a player with Ajax, Barcelona and the Netherlands national team.
