UD Logroñés vs Las Palmas Preview
It will be a nervy Sunday evening at Las Gaunas, as UD Logroñés target survival on the final day. They go into this match in the relegation zone, but only by virtue of an inferior H2H record against 18th place Lugo. The Galician side have a much more difficult final game away to Rayo Vallecano and the same is true of 17th place Alcorcon, so there’s a very good chance that victory here would be enough to keep UD Logroñés afloat.
The original CD Logroñés were top flight regulars in the 1990’s but folded in 2009 and UD Logroñés were the first of the two clubs to replace them to make it as far as the second tier when they won promotion last year. It was always most likely going to be a struggle at this level but they’ve done well to take their fight for safety to the final game.
Unlike some of the other promoted clubs, they’ve kept faith with their coach Sergio Rodríguez who has been in charge since 2017 but it has been a strange campaign. They won six straight matches in the Segunda Division between October and November but immediately followed that up with six straight defeats in all competitions. They’ve lost four of their last six but a key 1-0 win over Fuenlabrada in their last home game gives them a fighting chance on the final weekend despite Monday’s defeat in Almeria.
If they’d been able to pick their final opponents, Las Palmas would have been quite high on their priority list you’d imagine. The Canary Islanders have nothing to play for with a safe mid-table finish guaranteed. With only 9 points from their last 8 games, they aren’t in great form and nor are they very convincing travellers.
It’s just 2 away wins all season in the league for Las Palmas – not great in a season almost entirely played behind doors where home advantage is reduced. Only Castellon and Lugo have collected fewer away points. They did though put three points on the board last time out, seeing off Albacete 3-2 in Gran Canaria. Among their scorers was former Real Madrid and PSG player Jesé who is trying to restart his career back in his hometown.
Head to Head
- Las Palmas won the reverse fixture 2-1 earlier this term.
- The clubs hadn’t previously met.
UD Logroñés vs Las Palmas Predictions
Score Prediction: UD Logroñés 2-1 Las Palmas
It has been a rollercoaster season for UD Logrones but this in theory is a good final day fixture to have. Las Palmas’ players will subconsciously at least already be thinking about their summer breaks and a motivated home team may just find a victory which, looking at the other fixtures, may very well keep them up.
